Yes I would agree it does need more clutter. Broken/bent wood and wood laying around. And I definitely think it would be good to use a more broken background tile.

Perhaps also parts of the broken boulders could be lying around on the ground, they had to have gone somewhere.

Overall though I think it is going really well, you are definitely on the right track and even though not perfect it is really coming together!

Here is the fort ground tile, the changes are less subtle as for the ground for the keep.
its darker/dirtier and rougher as if there was some sort of battle.

I cannot really add embellishment to the fort ground since it would be duplicated and used for every fort hex. i would have to make multiply versions of it.
i will do that as a bonus maybe at the end.

Here the fixes for 4 of the 12 fort walls. they look less damaged, especially the corner stones.
the wood pikes are now realistically bent and are less pike-ish. I tried to bent them inwards, which would be more realistic, but it looked very odd. So i decided against it and bent the outwards.
they have now embellishment, but not too much.

also a big plus: the convex/concave variants do look much more different. by default, the original castle used the exact same wall for convex/concave variants...

done

here are the missing 12 pieces of the puzzle:
-more embellishment
-more solid cornerstones
- bent wood
- cracks on the wood pikes
- generally less destroyed
- each piece is now more unique rather then copy&paste as the version before

Soo here it is. I guess looks a lot better now.

- a lot lesser crumbled rocks
- wood seems more natural
- come corner stones are undamaged, some got cracks

To be improved (fort):

- bottom right corner shows grass, needs to be covered
- left corner shows a gap between corner stone and wood pikes

i also added some other random strucutres to get an opinion how they could look like other wise

It's not a bad project to pick up, thanks for contributing. :)

Looking at the images and this thread, I think you may have done things a little out of order, taking all the little image files in isolation, then testing them later on.
Here are a few issues I see that may be results of that, though of course they can be fixed:
1. The rubble is drawn flat, there is no illusion that it is resting on a boulder. (And that particular corner has mirrored rubble?)
2. There are some areas that look like glitches, like that vertical jump to grass next to the "2".
3. The dark crosses are cracks? Mud-splatters? They also look drawn flat on a page, they need some sort of shading.

If the rocks are being broken, there could be fresh, clean, bright rock exposed, so you could add some brighter pixels if you wanted.

Hey there, it kind of got lost in the wind.
but not because i am not interested in finishing this or because I have no time, but doofus was right.
when doing these I have to watch the bigger picture, not isolate each wall piece.

But at least I know how to approach it now, I just need to start working on it again.

Yes, I can definitely sympathize with that  . Hopefully you will be able to finish it at some point because it has a lot of potential! Hopefully I also will be able to have time at some point to start working again on some of my many abandoned add-ons.
