Would expanding on either of these potential mainline-replacement sprites be of interest? They're both pretty badly outdated, and losing the few frames of makeshift animation we have on them doesn't feel like too much of a loss.

Re: Monsters!
I like what you have done there.
Were you intending to finish the Skeletal Dragon base frame?

Re: Monsters!
Yeah, I've had that skeletal bugger sitting in a backlog for months before I came back today and decided to finish up the head and shoulders. Decided it was worth posting for popular feedback.
I'm not sure the shoulders actually make sense- parts of the skeleton, like the shoulders, are supposed to be fused with the scales of the dragon (for rule of cool), so there's some spikes sticking out that don't exist on any real lizard skeletons. Is this a... lore-compliant idea?

Re: Monsters!
If it's a problem, the scales can be re-colored slightly (maybe green) to show that they are just decaying matter hanging on to the bone rather than part of it. Either way I think it looks amazing... your spriting skills have far surpassed mine.

Re: Monsters!
Shouldn't skeletal dragon have wings like the living one? Sure, the current sprite doesn't have wings either, but the unit has flying movement. On the other hand, the map (Drowned Plains in EI) doesn't have any chasms and undead could move in deep water even without wings. Other than that looks great, but I have no artistic title or talent.

Re: Monsters!
Awesome! Keep up the good work, zerovirus.
The new scorpion looks way 10x better than the current one.
The new skeletal dragon, though incomplete left me speechless by its greatness.
I hope they make it into core folder.

Re: Monsters!
the fire dragon had a simpler brother that wasn't good enough for mainline but had some very good animations, and was supposed to be used as a template to animate the current one...
it would be great to unearth these too at some point...

What, this thread? I've been following this too. http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23777
Also, Artisticdude said that the bone was very metal-like and offered me an alternative palette. Methinks it's more fossil than bone, but it's a pretty awesome palette nonetheless.

Re: Monsters!
This is pure awesomeness. I'm definitely going to make a portrait for this baby someday!
Regarding the bone palette I'd say that browner is indeed better, but it could afford brighter highlights

Re: Monsters!
I'd agree. A few tones lighter, but in that general area, fits a long-buried skeleton quite nicely. I'd also suggest a little more research on skulls - they tend to have a lot more gaps and fewer solid areas, particularly on large predators. The muscles have to attach somewhere.

Re: Monsters!
I'll work on refining the palette towards the brownish tones next. Tried to edit the skull, but I'm not sure it works too well...
The last fleshy variant is mostly for fun. I think the most realistic choices are the first or second variant.

Re: Monsters!
For reference the eye sockets, and various passages and sinuses are BIG. The edited skull looks better, but I'd personally prefer to see it go a little further.
