Re: Chocobone (WIP)
I've taken a break from the attack animation (one thrust frame done, having a little trouble working out how the second will work) to do the defense animation.
On second thought, having him raise the spear may not have been such a good idea.

Bigger. He's a big unit, he ought to move quite a lot with his defence. Hunker him down, and hunch him in. But you're definitely going the right way with this, keep up the good work =)

And probably drop the whole thing down against the legs by a couple of pixels in the second frame. Should have mentioned that too, sorry. Otherwise, that looks great to me.

Re: Chocobone (WIP)
There is no movement in the bird's body. It looks a little odd. At least its neck should curve as its head goes back.

Maybe those vestigial wings could flap needlessly? I know chickens' wings go insane when they're under attack.

Finishing the attack, except for the motion blurs.

Re: Chocobone (WIP)
It a wee bit too slow, cause by the time it leans down and attacks, the opponent would be able to get away (of course, you cant do that in wesnoth).
Besides, I thought the chocobone had a charge attack; in order to have a charge attack, they have to... well, charge. No offense, but it looks like he's merely "poking" his opponent.

Why are you wasting your time reading this when you are here for the forums?

Re: Chocobone (WIP)
Maybe it looks slow because the animation has two "stages":
- Lower spear/bird leans forward
- Thrust
Re: Chocobone (WIP)
That looks better, and worthy of commit in my opinion.

Good eye. Tweak your version to match this, A-red, and I think we're about ready to go. Very nice work, thanks =)Yoyobuae wrote:Maybe it looks slow because the animation has two "stages":If the lowering of the spear/thrusting occurs earlier, at the same time the bird leans forward, then it looks faster/more energetic. Example: Nice work, by the way.

- Thrust

Re: Chocobone (WIP)
Ok, here's my version with those two frames removed. I'm also attaching a zip with all the frames for both animations, since it sounds like we're finalized.
Note to the committer: The attack animation frames are offset from the base frame--I slid them left a few pixels to fit the spear thrust into the image...I know the engine can now handle images that go outside of 70x70, but I wasn't sure if there were technical guidelines for making such images in a way that the game would recognize and correctly align. You may have to make a quick fix on those (and please let me know how to do it for future reference). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Chocobone (WIP)
It's dead easy to do, actually - if you need to add space on one side, simply add the same amount on the other to even things up.
