Done for you. It's up to you which colour blur you commit.

Prelim south anim to check I'm going in the right direction. I think I'll need to check it in game to see how the slide works. I'm guessing a south defense would be useful for this cheerful chappy.
Spoiler:
[EDIT]

Looks pretty good in game, I shall get this shaded and hopefully someone (I know tsi's now away but he's not the only one with commit powers).

I would try making him bend over a tiny bit more (lowering his head one pixel) in one or two of the striking frames. Would make it look more fluid i think. Otherwise looking good.

Indeed. A bit mroe of an obvious step might also be necessary to account for the size of the frame, I'd have to test it in game to make sure. No south defence is necessary however. One defence animation is more than enough. The fighter line's axe attacks are in good shape, though some minor fiddles with the motion blurs would improve them. And you've misprinted stalwart for steelclad in your post =)

Nice work, I'm sure what you have will be good to commit when I get back. Can't do it now, since I haven't got my SVN capable computer here any more.

I like these animations. great work.

On this most recent one, the shield arm goes back, leaving the dwarf more exposed to attack. It seems that the shield should move forward with him. I'm not suggesting you fix this, I'm just pointing out that someone trained in fighting wouldn't leave themselves so exposed during an attack.

Kinematics trump realism at this scale. The shield arm moves to counter the movement of the spear. The critique is accurate, but not really relevant.

Most of the Dwarvish attack animations are something seasoned fighters wouldn't do - Jumping attacks, raising a weapon fully above your head, etc. Unfortunately the levels of exaggeration I have to use to make the motions look right don't lend themselves to real life situations (or at least that's the way I think).

wrt the step: I agree, it's been in the back of my mind since I started. I'll fiddle about, with it, and it might have the bonus of centering the hit.

Oh and enjoy your holiday tsi

Double post. Only issue I haven't sorted is the step, and I'd rather have someone else's opinion from an in-game perspective before I approach it. That aside I think this little fellow is sorted in terms of south animations. I think I might have a break from him before tackling the north animations.

You probably want to move the spear back a bit as he turns it. Currently it looks rather like he's hitting his enemy over the head with that spear.

I believe that issue fixes itself in game (in better words: it does from my somewhat biased view). It's not that noticable, but the hand is a long way back, and I've shortened the spear in the frame before the strike - perhaps there needs to be a slight delay there.

EDIT: Yeah, an extra 50ms added to the 2nd frame makes all the difference in game. I've also made the filenames the correct wasy around (I had -X-s.png where it should be -s-X.png)

EDIT2: I got bored and started on a standing animation for this guy. I didn't want it too obvious (unlike the wonderful job sleepwalker is doing) as, as mention before, this little guy is a heavy and slow warrior. It might need a little tweaking, and I'm not sure about the spear's rotation; but that aside I think it fits.

The attack looks good. The bob needs some movement through the legs, but otherwise looks good. Nice work.

Awesome, I'll get those legs moving a touch and post up a zip.

In the meantime - here's an attempt at a NE frame. I know it's close, but there's still something not quite right that I can't put my finger on right now, but it's finally getting somewhere close :annoyed:.

EDIT: And got some bob into the... er bob.

Legs too long, backside too horixontal.

And i think maybe the bob is just a touch too big now - maybe tone down the movement to just one pixel per frame?
