Base frames, awesome. I'll be catching you online this evening to work out a few tweaks that we still need to make to the clasher/gladiator line - then we need to really blitz these over the weekend, since the deadline is monday.

The pierce animations for the Slasher and Warden shouldn't take too long, I'd hpe to finish those pretty quickly after I get back from work.

Those new baseframes are awesome! I get an distinct aztec/mayan vibe from them which is a great and unusual interpretation for dragon-like creatures :D (And it also works nicely with the new stone-pyramid like houses syntax is working on!) The skydrake's helmet has to be my favourite part!

Can't wait to see the other new baseframes!

Jetrel wrote::eng: Update from Neoriceisgood; We have new base frames for the Gladiator, Enforcer, Warden, and also for the Sky Drake:

The gladiator and enforcer's helms should be much better-suited for the "headbutt" attack.
Those new sprites look awesome, except for the fact that they're green, but the armor on the Clasher line and even the Sky Drake mostly cover it up.

So the Enforcer trades it's spear in for a trident. Nice detail. That means that none of it's weapons are in common with the old version, yet all their purposes are fulfilled by more innovative and unique alternatives.

This is all the frames for the slasher. Assuming Jet OKs them on IRC, i'll clear up some questions about the cfg, and commit them this evening. HOpefully, I'll be able to finish the Warden this evening, too.

UPdated Claser portrait. Unless there are any mre issues, I call this finished. NOw, Warden pierce animations.

EDIT: also, a minor rework to the Clasher slash animation I did the other day.

EDIT again: frames for the Warden. Only the south pierce waiting, and i need jet for that. Where is he...

What is the most constant flaw on your portraits, is that you use lots of thin outlines - imo if you used fewer but bolder outlines, and just shading in place of the other outlines that werent important enough to be bold ones, it would add a lot.

I agree with this, your dwarf portraits shows it more also.

:? I've gotta take an invasive look at this thing. This claw stuff is hard to animate.

On a schedule with bad phase relative to yours. :| Here is a first draft. So that you have it to clone warden animations from, I'm gonna clean this up myself and commit it tonight; that should make doing the WML for the warden trivial as well.

The big thing to note is the change in the posture; your posture on the last 4 frames was ... strange. His head was leaning to our right for no reason I can determine, and the wings hadn't been changed to forward-facing.

Cool cool, looks good.

The head was like that because the whole stance was taken from the slash frames, which were looking off to the right slightly. I'll look forward to seeing the claw slash - I'll see about some fixes to the gladiator and enforcer in the interim.

YOU RANG?!

To be honest, I'm not seeing much of a variation between this iteration and the last one. Some minor shading tweaks here and there, but not really in the trouble areas. The armor still doesn't have much thickness to it. The only changes I see made here are the bracers and the helmet. The thumb on the arm closest to us is still wonky looking. I believe kitty did a decent paint over to follow for that correction back on page 6. There's still too many brightly colored areas, and it's flattening out the whole figure. Again, refer back to Kittys paint over on page 6. The painted on flames are also just sticking out way too much and don't actually seem like part of the metal. The coloration of them is too brilliant and because it doesn't seem to have any gradient done to them to have them roll back with the form of the shoulder, they just don't fit.

The cloth is looking much better, but it's not really rolling enough. It needs to dip into itself more and roll back out. The big black smudge on the tail is killing that area. The coloration of the shading elsewhere is also giving it the effect like the burn tool was used almost exclusively to do it. If this isn't the case, then you just used a darker color of the armor to do the shading. Always use Complimentary colors to do shading in an area if you want to make it look more convincing. Green to red, blue to yellow, etc. It takes away the burn tool effect you're getting and really drives home that the form is turning away from the light source.

Don't give up on it yet. It has a lot of potential and a great start. Take some time and give it the attention it deserves.

http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=23783 is the method for the armour. I probably need a bit more of the colour overlay step, though.

I referred to the paintover right through this one.

Doing a side-by-side comparison, though, I can see some more areas which need attention.

Whipped this up just for fun. Hope it helps with the armor thickness and paint.

 I think I've done something bad to my left arm RSI-wise. I hope it's better tomorrow. Otherwise we're all in some deep [censored], here. I should have taken a break in the middle of this. hindsight is 20/20.

no clasher yet - I must stop now.

I've completely committed the slasher to trunk, although we could stand to redo the south-pierce motion-blurs; should be easy though, because what's underneath the is identical across frames.
