I upped the saturation. I'm done with it because at this point I'm just guessing about the colours.

It looks a lot more green than gold. I took a shot at it What do you think?

That's more like it =) Possibly even more saturated than that would work.

Golden does not equal yellow.

A nice collaborative effort to update, given the rework by one artist and the coloring by another. Good job to all.

i really love your chain mail armor. wonder why there are no units with this type of armor - is it because it's hard to team color it?

Two reasons - it's difficult to TC, as you suggest, and it's a larger scale than our units are, so putting in that level of detail wouldn't be easy.

The spear looks good, the cloak looks OK but again, it wants some sort of hanger, though doing that convincingly won't be easy.

I'm not on board with the hanger. The only thing I can think of would be a sort of mannequin, which I think would look worse than nothing. The units, terrains, items, & scenery are all on different scales so realism isn't that strong anyway.

I don't see what a hanger adds, but if there are any good ideas I can try it. Of course, anyone else can too.

I'm happy to skip it if there's no good way to do it.

I've committed the two armor items.

As for the cloak, it's not quite as impressive as the armors. It's still a "change without dramatic improvement." I do encourage you to continue; our cloak could use a much better icon.

To try it on a stand, have it like this. The hood can just be a 1px thin black spot, flattened against the back of the cloak.

Not having to have the empty hood makes a hanger much more appealing. I don't know why I thought the hood had to be up.

Does this mean none of the items should just exist like an icon, but should feel gravity and interact with the ground? In other words, does something like the sword need to be stuck in the ground instead of just floating at 45 degrees in the screen?

We should do it for whichever items end up looking nice, when we do it. What we're chiefly interested in is "easy, iconic recognizability". We're only doing things like putting armor on a stand because it looks better and easier to recognize.

Do be aware, though, for many people, including myself "floating at 45 degrees in the screen" often looks enough like it's lying on the ground, for long, flat objects like spears and swords. For example, that's what the spear earlier in this thread looks like, to me. It's iconic, but doesn't look like it's floating in midair.

Perhaps an 'obscuring undergrowth' overlay or two might be handy?
