Artisticdude: Well, there's only so many ways you can portray a face from a certain angle with the pixels we have for use. tilting the head in another way has let blarumyrran create more unique faces, which was one of his goals. It does look like the lvl2 is admiring the clouds though, or is concentrating on something in his head.
I like these very much now. They are readable and well made. A big improvement of the originals.

Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, lose in order to gain, and sometimes we must have to be broken so we can be whole again...

Re: Three wise magi (sprites + portraits)
...and again I give in and edit things i have promised not to edit any further.
1) portait sketches for level1 and level2(/3 ?)
wip; a bit too dark probably
2) the magical sword & sword-holding hand of the level2 move around slightly, because of magic (let's say, the Magically increased hit chance is caused by the sword moving on its own). This happened because at first I just wanted white magic flashes running around the sword, but then some of those flashes made it look like the handle rotates slightly; but it looked half-ways between magic flashes and rotation-caused changes of hilights; so i went all the way for the rotation. Done for lvl2, but now i'll have to do one for lvl3 to match. (not for lvl1, whose sword isn't Magical)

Re: Three wise magi (sprites + portraits)
To me it looks more like the magical aura of the sword bends the light around it a bit like heat does rather than being rotating (with some light flashes as originally intended), which is a cool effect nonetheless.
Very cool portraits. Captures the gist of the unit and the finished parts are really well made. Love the grime.
