The pauldron could also be replaced with a lorica manica, a segmented armour sleeve the gladiators used to wear (for her a lighter version made of leather). That would actually offer some defense while not restricting movement much.

This is the sprite. Whether the sprite matches Wesnothian style or not, it appears to me that kitty has pretty well duplicated it in portrait form.

I really don't think assassins would wear sleeves of armor. Remember the unit has negative physical resistancies. It would be neat to see the headband, but I'm not sure it matters much either way.

JW: The sprites can be changed if the portraits are cool enough. ;)

At least, that was once an art policy in the past. Not sure if it still holds true.

There might be a risk that a change of sprite won't be possible for the moment considering the work that still has to be done but anyway, we have to wait Jetryl's decision.

If the portrait is cool enough, it will be different from the sprite, as with... about 90% of portraits thus far (it might be a bit mroe different in some cases, but still) - this is, in fact, one of the portraits which is closest to the sprite i think. Changing sprites to fit portraits is waaaay more effort than it's worth. That's not a precedent i'd like to set these days when the sprite artwork is massively complex for some units, and in some cases runs to dozens of frames...

just a little update on the assassin, i started to make her gear slightly more medieval by adding a hood thingie over her mask and giving all the little tidbits that got lost in the darkness of the last version a more leather-y appearance. and i started shading her face, giving her a more critical expression.

Both the female thief and the female assassin are very nicely done, but might I ask why the the assassin seems to have gotten a smoother face compared to the scarred and worn face of the theif? Aside from this very small lack of coherence I think the new portraits are awesome! Keep up the good work. :D

At first. I am really impressed and learned a lot by reading your posts and tutorials. My skills so far are only good to roughly mingle somebodies artwork.

I still have 3 or 4 issues with the female thief. ( I will supply pictures)

1. Left (ladies viewpoint) side of skirt (or what ever) definitely to far out. This lady has to go to hospital and can not snatch anybodies wallet.

2. Left arm should be higher. Somebody said that. Shoulders can be lower. This is only a case for the chiropracter. So this is only recommended.

3. Right side of the skirt could be more out. This looks more dynamic and convenient. Not absolutly necessary. Maybe just on the level of the hand (below the fingers) would do.

4. Left eye looks like the lady is half blind. If this is the intention I would spare it for higher levels (rogue). Just a question of taste. My experiments are not really convincing. The Lady has a squint now (cross-eyed)

That is it. no more critique at this one. Please fix at least point one even if it is allready committed.

Here comes my futile attempt to give this lady dual sight.

About the asassin.

Posture:
I would tilt the pelvic and remove the belly. (Translation: She sticks out the butt and is pregnant, fat or has an extremly weak lower belly) This comes a lot from the belt (with pockets) and seems to be intended, but it makes the figure look physically weak.

Metal:
I would recommand some reflexion on the black armor and weapon.

Head wear:
While the hood is nice I would consider removing the old head wear. It looks like a somebody trying to hide her hair for whatever reason (I do not get into details, because it would be political uncorrect)

The assassin only has her face and mas shaded so far, the rest is flats-only...

And she is trying to hide her hair, presumably because, like the thief and rogue, it's dyed blue-white, which is not exactly conducive to good concealment at night...

I read the skirt pushed out there as her leg--As in, she's not standing straight up with both feet pushed together, but has her weight on only one leg, and is leaning for torso slightly forward over her leg (The right side of the skirt also makes sense this way). Not sure, though; my grasp on anatomy's probably worse than yours :hmm:

In a word, no. The artists who contribute to Wesnoth are doing just that, voluntarily donating their time and effort in order to provide artwork to the game out of the kindness of their heart. Do not boss them around or tell them that they need to fix certain issues that you feel are wrong. Not to mention, as you noted yourself, commented on a portrait that the artistic developers have decided is ready go into the game and is already committed into mainline will not get you anywhere. Kitty is not going to go back over minor nitpicks, these portraits are not meant to be absolutely perfect.

Read the Critique Guidelines and even the Posting Guidelines before posting again. With the exception of the fourth image, there was no need to post so many times either, so contain yourself to one post and not three in the future.

Indeed. If Kitty's happy with it, and it's already committed, there's little likelihood anything will be done - listing long lists of nitpicks is counterproductive.

And if you must include redline images and fix attempts, better to do them all on the one picture than separate versions, to save on bandwidth.

Thank you so much for helping me to get in the world of forum posting.

I am sorry for wasting bandwith. It won't happen again. Sorry for the third post. I thought new topic, new post.

I am a sincerely devotee of artist making this beautyfull drawings like Kitty.

Point 1 I would consider a major technical issue for anatomic reasons. I would call it level one on the scale below, but only to be polite.

That was the only reason why I was begging Kitty for a change even if it is allready committed. I do understand that it is totally to her discretion to decide.

I would be happy to receive some feedback on my critique from Kitty.
Lets consider technical understanding as a series of levels:

Level 0: Blatantly wrong: A hand is on backwards.
Who should critique?: Anyone.

Level 1: Wrong: It looks okay at a quick glance, but a close look indicates a clear problem. The eyes are positioned disproportionately high in the head. The sword blade is twisted relative to the handle. The orc has unusually 'chiselled' features.
Who should critique?: Anyone.
I spent some more efforts on the picture to change it for a custom chatacter. I made her younger, stronger and twisted the head 20 degree (in that order). When (if) somebody wants to see it, I am willing to share. It might help to understand how muscles are attached to the body frame. Otherwise I save bandwith.
