Re: Dragon sprite
Awesome. I was afraid someone would come along and say, "Nope, not gonna happen." so I didn't want to get too excited about it... this would be about the best thing *ever*.

If you (either of you, PM or eternal) want some inspiration, check this out. Shows you what you can do with just 16 colours, doesn't it...

Re: Dragon sprite
Yeah that's a nice use of pixels.
Needed a break from pixel animation, so i started to make something like a portrait.
I was doodeling for a while until I suddenly stopped ... wait a minute .. red dragons are usually ... well .. red .... damn
Fortunately there are color shifting tools ^^

Re: Dragon sprite
Nice start - stylistically it might be a little too cel-shaded, but it looks great, and i'm sure it will find use somewhere =)

Very visible scales would benefit.

Re: Dragon sprite
At the risk of boring you all with predictability: yes it will! My "dragon" villain in ARL is desperate for a portrait, and I wouldn't mind one bit if it was a bit more head-centred than other portraits, because a big head may add to the shock value that the first speaking appearance wants to elicit. Just make sure the portrait matches your sprite (or vice versa), and they are both going in pronto!thespaceinvader wrote:I'm sure it will find use somewhere

Re: Dragon sprite
The dragon portrait in mainline will almost certainly be head- or head-and-neck-only. It would be extremely tough, otherwise, to fit a unit of that size in to the 500px square.

Very nice. But bigger horns are needed =D

Re: Dragon sprite
Wow!
Looks like you're not only a talented pixel artist! Jetrel probably needs artists more desperately but if you'd like to contribute some monster portraits you're more than welcome...
Only little crit on the dragon head is the perspective on the horn on his nose (should be seen from below like the rest of the head). And do you plan to show a bit more of his neck, shoulder or wing? He has a slight sock puppet feel to me atm, but perhaps that will go away on its own when you'll have detailed the neck.

Re: Dragon sprite
Thanks
I may try to do some monster portraits when I finished the dragon project.
Fixed the horn perspective but the jaw was also ( still is ? ) terribly wrong, I hope it looks slightly better now.
The whole thing looks currently like this: ( not sure where to place the other wing )

Re: Dragon sprite
It is shaping up very nicely, can't wait to see it done.
I also can't think of a straightforward way that the other wing could be placed so as not to become a potentially interfering background to the head area of the picture. I guess one way would be to have both wings appear lower and more outstretched, and the other to just bite the bullet and see how the other wing drawn in symmetry to the first one would affect the entire picture.
As said above, however, an enlarged "shot" of just the head and neck would also work wonderfully. Would it thus be possible for you, once you're finished, to also post a separate enlarged headshot of this beautiful creature? That way we end up with two portraits that can be used - a closeup and a body shot.
(Obviously, it can all be done at the end if you're working at a greater resolution. The only problem may be caused by that missing wing. If it ends up as background to the head on the body shot, could you post a separate closeup of the head without it before you add it to the portrait, or - if possible - draw that part on a separate layer that could then easily be removed for the head-and-neck shot?)

Re: Dragon sprite
That's... When that is finished, it makes using dragons in campaigns a LOT nicer.
But I think (just my opinion) that it would be cool if the arm/hand would show in the picture. But that would probably make it too stuffed up or soemthing?
Check out my sprites!
