Re: Portrait sketches
Very, very nice. You took the "cute" look and made him more serious. That's what a pic of a warrior unit should be. I also noticed the kind of joined-minds thing, too. The two together look pretty awesome. Just one question: Where is the wolf's behind? If it is sitting, you could draw it with the tail sticking out, but right now it's all blank...
Ehhhh... don't mind me, I'm just the annoying little modder who gets on peoples nerves. I'll just lurk till Someone says my name. :P

Re: Portrait sketches
Thanks. The wolf's largely unfinished, but the back's supposed to be pretty much behind the goblin and the wolf's front. I'm going to have to give some thought to it before I start shading it. I'll try to get the goblin look overall decent (if you can use such a word to describe an orc) first, though.

I would imagine his behind can be found south of where that tail is sticking up...Dragonchampion wrote:Where is the wolf's behind? If it is sitting, you could draw it with the tail sticking out, but right now it's all blank...

Re: Portrait sketches
Nice work on the armor. It looks very dark to me though. Wouldn't it be good to add a bit more light to the composition so we can see the details better. I'm very curious how you will do the hair on the wolf, It can make very interesting patterns.
Another thing. Did you draw the rest of their legs? it seems like the wolf's legs would be too short. You could sketch them rapidly to see what they would look like.

The forum makes the image darker, clicking on it will lighten it up considerably.

That is the orc's blade, I think, I may be wrong, though.Turuk wrote:I would imagine his behind can be found south of where that tail is sticking up...

Re: Portrait sketches
I'm liking the naga, but something is bugging me. The yellower scales on the bottom are presumably for sliding over the ground, but they would not slide as drawn. He should be smooth there and spiky elsewhere. Also, he looks uncomfortably compressed where his bottom belt is.

Skizzaltix: The new position of the rear arm didn't fix the issue why I asked you to move it - he would still need to break his shoulder if you take his spine into consideration... Sorry, but you'll need to have another go at this.
Girgistian: Good to see you keeping on your wolf rider
I like his helmet, plume and expression very much! As you know we already have one generic goblin by now, the one bera drew and I coloured. It would be great if you managed to tie your gobbos together with that one, make them share some details etc. Especially longer arms would be needed.
And could somebody please split Skizzaltix' work on the naga out of this thread? - It's terribly confusing to keep the discussion on both artworks apart.
Your wish is my... and so on. See Naga by Skizzaltix thread.

Re: Portrait sketches
Alright, thanks. Posting some progress for now...
Currently I'm not very happy about the skin colour, but originally I was just testing out the shading, so this is not by any means supposed to be the final face. Are the arms long enough now?

Re: Portrait sketches
Girg, are you keeping the blade that dark or will it be lightened up a bit? It's a bit lost against his pants, though it's more that the leather straps are lost around the blade that made me say it. Perhaps making the leather stand out a bit more then?

Re: Portrait sketches
I'd say the arms look a little short - proportionally, they're shorter than a full-sized human's would be, and they should, to my mind, be at least the same length, if not slightly longer.
I'd also say that his face looks a little too pink, and could do with some more colour variations anyway - redder cheeks, darker jaws etc. But overall, you've done a good job at making him look short - the only other thing i'd say is to make sure he sits fairly low in the frame for the final cut - about the same level as the dwarves would be a good bet, if not a little shorter.
Stylistically, it looks very nice, too =) you could probably stand some slightly brighter highlights on the cloth and leather parts too, though.
Great work.

Re: WSAS: First milestone approaching
Hijack! I've got a warrior/blademaster sketch for you, based on neorice's new sprites in art development. I've got a much bigger version to send via pm, should you require one.
I can also post these fellas in the sketch-thread, in case this crowds yours too much - just let me know

Re: WSAS: First milestone approaching
I'd prefer if you posted them in another thread, thanks, since these portraits aren't going to be part of the WSAS project - just the level 1s.
Looks good, though =)
