Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
How about an anvil and a hammer (plus the shield maybe)? The wesnoth devs are hammering the dev version of wesnoth into the next release...
Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
Well, talking about hammers I meant something like this (my picture is terrible, of course, just the idea):mesilliac wrote:here are a couple 20-second attempts with hammers... anything else would need a new hammer.

This is true. But the basic problem there is that I'm lazySapient wrote: bah... I can see that I should have just drawn it. :p
anyways you can get stuff very small and still tell what it is if you use the right technique. for example, Wesnoth sprite art.
For fun I made a clockwork shield. It's not very distinguishable from the normal one.
The wireframe idea isn't so bad.
I just personally don't like hammers.
Maybe I don't want to imply that developers are dwarves
I don't even use the dev release anyway...

Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
IMO you need to cut out more of the shield. It seems odd how the bend in the cut (you know, it goes up then diagonally) isn't in the center.

oh something like:
I should make some more gears / fix them, but I'm not even sure if it's possible for this concept to work.

It's not perfect yet, but it works for me yeah.mesilliac wrote:oh something like:

Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
imo it should do a color switch too, for more instant recognizability. (and green being the symbol of growth and youth)
Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
Yeah, that looks much better IMO. Cool.mesilliac wrote:oh something like:

Looking good. Any chance you could sharpen the gears? Currently they're noticeably blurrier than the shield.Syntax_Error wrote:imo it should do a color switch too, for more instant recognizability. (and green being the symbol of growth and youth)

Gears under the shield works nicely for me. One less thing for me to do.

Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
Slight necromancy, but is there anything in this thread that the artsy people find good enough to be used for the next dev-release? I still think it's a good idea and obviously I can't draw a good enough version myselfJetryl wrote:Gears under the shield works nicely for me. One less thing for me to do.

The recent version by Mesilliac, with the gears.tsr wrote:Slight necromancy, but is there anything in this thread that the artsy people find good enough to be used for the next dev-release? Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
Does this suck? I found the cool hammer from google and tried to edit it more "cartoony" but I think it isn't good... And I redded the shield a bit. I just wanted to make something...
Check out my sprites!

Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
At least one of the hammer's heads isn't aligned with the handle. Also, IMO the text itself shouldn't have been edited. Perhaps you should have made the hammers first, then put the shield on, and then the text?
Re: Desktop icon for the dev-release
I cannot find it, but a while back there was just the icon for this - the wesnoth shield with gears in it. It was not a favorite at the time, but I liked it quite a lot.
