Like I said, use mirror. Grab some stick and look in the mirror how your hand looks in that position. You'll notice that the thumb is not on top of the fingers, but next to them, pointing directly down.I never drew hands before so not to sure if i can improve it.
The armour: reference, reference.
You'll need to draw the original in big enough size, so that you can fit in enough detail, and everything looks smooth when you scale it down (use bicubic interpolation).
Tiedäthän kuinka pelataan.
Tiedäthän, vihtahousua vastaan.
Tiedäthän, solmu kravatin, se kantaa niin synnit
kuin syntien tekijätkin.

SWEET armour reference, for Italian armour, and all in line drawings, from the front AND the back, on identical "manequins".

Note how it's not just gobs of chunky metal stuck here and there, the individual components of each and every suit follow the body's form perfectly.
This might be worth Wiki-ing, I'll leave that to the art admins.....

Ok, I fixed up the picture a bit, such as fix the mace worked on the hand a bit, fixed and changed some lighting, added some darking... what do you think better or worse?

What is the "right side" is it not the side that you believe in, regardless if it is good or evil?

The HI is meant to be solid, stable and ponderous ie. non-dynamic. IMO, the front-on view works well for him.Sgt. Groovy wrote:The pose is problematic in that it's "in the block", as Jetryl would say, meaning everything is aligned with the paper surface, which makes the pose static and dull. Usually the portrait position is not directly frontal, but in this case it might work, because, especially if you would make the lighting consistently from below, it would make the unit look as menacing as it's supposed to be.
I agree with the comment re: the lighting and the new version does indeed look more menacing.
P.S. Yes Redeth, it's you - the darkness looks just fine on my monitor.
