The thing that immediately leaps out at me re: the legs is that they aren't anti-aliased - they look incredibly pixelated. (If you're using the GIMP, just use the paintbrush tool rather than the pencil).

I was thinking of that, I'll try it next time I work on him.

To avoid the harvestman look, the legs should be thicker, and taper towards the tip. Also, they could be more streched out. Few pictures for reference: 1, 2,3,4.
We're talking about a monstrous beast in a fantasy world here. Complete adherence to real world biology is not required.
Sure, but not the horses, wolves, sea serpents, or any other animals in the game have unexpected number of eyes.

actually, I wanted to go for the very thin spindly legs, they look creepier. Heck, if it turns out I get really good at drawing them I'll give him more than the standard eight.

The legs (especially the rear ones) are very 'bunched up'. They should be more spread out like this guy:

point taken, looking again the rightmost leg is too square. I'm also going to try some different leg designs. If anyone else would like to take a crack at it your welcome to do so.

The legs, or more specifically the 'knees', stick up too high. Look at the pic irrevenant posted and you will see.
Also, the stripy legs are a bit off, slightly confusing. Rather, I would recommend only having colour on the joints.

Hmm? There was a thread about this very same subject a while ago. I took my tries there too but people said they were off perspective. And by judging their advice Dragon Masters spidey is more off perspective than my two tryouts. :?
Here's the thread.
And those two spiders I made (both with bad perspective as I understood it):

Hmm, make the second one black and with bigger red eyes, and we'll see what turns out. :) Both are great, but yes, not cave spiders but... Lava spiders.
me: Welcome to the real world. If everyone says your art and opinions suck, it's because they DO suck. Even if you're too damned proud/stupid/both to realize it.

Well, here's Martenzos idea. Grey, but big red eyes didn't look as good as these. :)

But I am making a tarantula-style spidey also. All my work looks pretty much like that in their beginning stages.
I posted it so Dragon Master can, if he wants, take a hack at it.
But... perhaps it really should be a web-spinner... Hmm... :?

Has anyone anything against having two kinds of giant spiders in the league of monsters? I can whip up a cfg with decently balanced stats if it comes to it.
