Yeti

Post by Eternal » November 4th, 2006, 9:49 am

I know, I know. This was supposed to be done by Neorice, but I was itching to do something and perhaps lighten Neo's load in the process. :)

Well, this new yeti is way too big to be animated within 72x72 pixels but don't worry for I have a neat and easy solution to that. :wink:

Please comment on how he looks and possible flaws I miss. Any personal views are welcome also.

This one, like the first shot you made at the ogre, is a dud.

The shape is too basic; each of the limb sections just billows out spherically; even with fur, it wouldn't do that, all of the fur would be more-or-less equidistant from an underlying muscle structure.

The fur doesn't seem furry enough; individual strands should be jutting all over the place, like what you did with the cockatrice's feathers.

Also, regarding the structure, his far arm doesn't jive with his far pectoral muscle. The far shoulder comes way too far forward.

The head-hair looks really good, though.

On a side note, it seems curious to me that Robot Chicken's yeti -also- has purple skin.. Could they have been inspired ... by ... us? (or was cedric inspired by someone else)

animations can spill out of the 72x72

only standing animations/frames can't (idle animations are ok, only standing animations)

Think Rudolph the rednosed reigndeer and Frosty the snowman. Claymation or whatever that movie was, the yeti, I believe, had purple skin.

Not an original idea by a longshot.

:o Gosh. I really need to practise more.
And it took so long to make that body fur look right. *sigh*

Nice to hear that there was at least something good in there. :)

Well, Neo will do five times better work in a quarter of time what took me to make that. :D

hmmm. It looks oddly disproportionate to me. The arms are huge and the legs are so small they almost look deformed; I don't see how they could support that massive upper body. The left arm is also at an odd angle, as if his elbow is pointing outward (the way you would hold your arms when you put your hands on your hips).

Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, I'm just pointing out a few obvious flaws.

The left arm is sort of messed up, I can fix that;

However the arms and legs being unproportional is intentional; if you look at the original yeti, it was like that in that one aswell, and it's a Yeti, not a human;

it's proportions can be different :)

Yeti looks good to me.
Disproportion is understandable for some, and flaw to others. Personally, I'm not so much inclined to thinking "if these legs could hold the upper body". Indeed, they are a bit too small, but Yeti has gained some toughness in the picture.

BTW, welcome back to all.

They don't need to, at least not for nothing but brief moments.

I think it's ok for the yeti to go on all fours. I agree that the arms are rather huge though, and look a bit odd.

I'd like to see neo's yeti with modified arms, and with hair (head, not body) more like what Eternal did, perhaps with more purple skin and more general furryness.

The body fur was right inside the sections, it just needed to spill at the edges.

Imagine what I could do if I actually bothered taking the time to do things instead of rushing it as much as possible ~<3
