Post by crwedman »

My first attempt making a sprite for tBfW. It's a grizzly bear!

Pretty good for a first attempt, but I feel like I want to pet him :)

Anyway, welcome to Wesnoth!

Thanks!

I've seen real life grizzlies in the wild, and they look like they want to be petted. It's just a ruse to get you close enough to maul you to death. :P

Anyway, I'm entirely new to pixel art. Perhaps, with a little more experience, I'll find a way to make the beasts look blood-thirsty.

...or, perhaps I should change the unit from "grizzly" bear to "circus" bear (and put a tutu on it!). :)

Nice work! See also Eternal's bears on this thread:

(I have a bear unit in my UMC, and now I don't know which one to use...)

He needs more shaggy-ness, more hair.
:) But otherwise he's good.

I also think he needs a neck, move his head forward more so it doesn't look like it was screwed on.

This art looks great, a real winner. But I do believe some shaggyness is in order... Most bears aren't real good groomers and don't care how they look

I've added some shag to her fur, and adjusted the head.

As to making the bear look more brutish (so that you wouldn't want to pet it), I figured it would be cool to have her look fairly none menacing until the attack animation, when she stands on her haunches, and with a gaping, growling mouth, procedes to swat hunks of flesh off her opponent.

Menace would be making it more like a Dire Bear - minus the scales.
