The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
Hi everyone, I've decided to do a slight revision of The Hammer of Thursagan's last playable scenario, "The Underlevels". The reason is that, as for those who play the campaign know:
The revised scenario can be downloaded from the add-on server (actually, it's provided in a whole revised campaign), or you can use the files below to overwrite the mainline files for the scenario and campaign map. I've also provided a save that I used to play this scenario based on the army that I accumulated through the rest of the unaltered campaign. I tested it on "Hard" mode, you can choose to reduce the difficulty if you like.
(The save THoT corresponds to one that you should use if you decide to overwrite the mainline files, and THoTr is a save to be used with the add-on version).
Edit to add updated scenario and map version.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
Hi Nemaara,
I just played through your revised version this morning on normal. I have a question: Did you revise the whole campaign or only the last scenario?
I think The Hmmer of Thursagan is a campaign that has since long not been revised and could use some improvements. I might even help if I get some time to play with wml again.
If you wanted I'd have a few suggestions towards other scenarios that you could implement if you wanted:
Anyway, I really enjoyed the new scenario. It was far more tedious before. This one took me about an hour and I think thats great, I still remember how I once took an entire weekend for that level.
I only thought the goldchest were overdose. I had an income of over +30 gold per round when I unlocked the runes, The gold chests did nothing for me in that situation. Maybe they can be replaced with some other kind of reward? Anyway, good work!
I'm attaching my replay.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
I only revised the last scenario, and I'm not planning to revise the whole campaign as of right now (that would take more time and interest than I have right now). Basically, I wanted to change the last scenario to be more consistent with the rest of the campaign, as every scenario except for the last one featured relatively simple, small battles. Then, the old "The Underlevels" scenario hit the player with this gigantic, labyrinthian map that took basically the same amount of time as the rest of the scenarios combined. I thought that didn't really make sense from a design standpoint, hence the new version.
I suppose if I could muster up the interest and find time to revise the other scenarios, I could do so, but I do have my own campaign to take care of too (along with a couple other projects... ). It also depends on the devs' interest in revising the campaign, since there's only been a couple comments on the revision so far.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
So, on turn 21 I'm still bottled in just outside the initial corridor, my units are between (21,18) and (21,21). The enemies have a combined income of +61 (!), their units are stacked three deep on the battle line, among their units are 5 Ulfserkers and 5 Berserkers. Is this how it's supposed to play?
Here's the start of scenario save (it's on MEDIUM).
By the way, @Paulomat4, you posted a start-of-scenario save, not a replay.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
I've updated the scenario file with some small balancing changes, so hopefully you won't run into the same issue now. You can get it from github or just above in this thread. If you still get stuck at the entrance, I guess I can reduce enemy income even more.josteph wrote: ↑October 15th, 2018, 7:57 pm So, on turn 21 I'm still bottled in just outside the initial corridor, my units are between (21,18) and (21,21). Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
I just played this campaign. I found the walkthrough, which was helpful up to the last scenario. In the last scenario, I did win, but I was unable to release any captives. I found the caves where they seem to have been kept, but could not figure out the doors.
What did I need to do?

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
Did you play the old or new version? It changed between 1.14.5 and 1.14.6.
The walkthough on the Wiki is for the old version of The Underlevels, in which there's no time limit and that scenario can easily take 200 turns.
The new version doesn't have any prisoners, and has a lot of gates, of which some won't open. If it had a time limit of 65 turns then that's the new version.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
Hi,
I just stumbled across this thread. I haven't played the new version yet, so I will try to delay any judgements until then, but I personally always found THoT last scenario as an epic finale. It was one of the first wesnoth campaigns that I played and after that I really got into wesnoth, because of the massive scale and awesomeness of that 100 turn scenario
I do respect that the scenario didn't quite fit into the campaign design but I am still somewhat disappointed However, as I said previously I will play the scenario first and see how it goes.

Re: The Hammer of Thursagan Revision
From the 1.15.1 changelog:
I'm sure there's a reason, why round about 25% of the campaign got simply zapped, but I can't think of one. Anybody able to enlighten me?The Hammer of Thursagan:
Removed scenarios 4 (Troll Bridge), 5 (Invaders), and 7 (Mages and Drakes).
