Yeah I thought of that. But I'm not sure how much is lost by having the poetry in a different language when it's not exactly telling you anything special about the story... I'll check to see how the bits of mainline verse are handled.

Edit: Checked Spanish and German, and the campaign description poem for The Sceptre of Fire is not translated for either.

Hey, this campaign looks very promising!
I do have one complaint about the first scenario - the allied leader is extremely fragile and will recklessly attack the orcs and immediately be killed the next turn, and there really isn't much the player can do about it. I think either the allied leader should be under the player's control, or their death shouldn't be a defeat condition (they could retreat from the battle instead of dying).

Anyway, keep up the good work!
p.s. Awesome poetry at the beginning :D

Hmm, do you have a replay of this happening? I've seen this as a potential issue, but it's never actually occurred in any of my play-throughs. I've got some ideas in mind to address it, I'd just like to see how it happened.

Unfortunately I don't have the replay because I lost the scenario, but what happened was the allied leader moved to a very exposed position in order to backstab an orcish assassin, I wasn't able to completely cover him on my turn, and on the orcs' turn one of the orcish leaders hit twice and killed him. His 30 HP and -30% blade resistance means that theoretically he can be killed from just one hex at any time, which is difficult to guard against given your limited units.

Ok. Were you playing on Challenging? That might explain why it hasn't happened to me since I mostly play through on Easy unless I'm testing balance [not much of the time].

I think I'll make Vinlar a level 2, regardless. I might leave that until I get the units situation figured out, however; the current units used for the Bright Spears don't really make much sense IMO.

I'm pleased to announce an upcoming release with all-new Deoran portraits. I'll post one here once it's live on the add-on server.

Splendid! Poetry before stability, prose before balance … :D
It's worth a try – if only to encourage authors:
writing with style makes a campaign just as appealing as lots of action or unusual characters.

You're awesome, thanks! I guess I'll have to start a partial translation file now...

Your verse and its German translation inspired me to take a jab at a translation as well. :D

I just realized that it's been a while since I've updated this thread, so here's a peek at some of the main things that I've been working on:

An all-new S0 featuring dialog from Deoran's meeting with Konrad II and an opportunity to customize your troops.
There'll be custom loyalist units to provide AMLA trees in order to avoid army stagnation.
The entire story arc is nearing finalization!
Custom portraits for Deoran and a character to be met in S2.
More poetry:

In Wesnoth both were built and dashed
My life and all my hopes;
The foe has built his stronghold there,
I tread the northern slopes.

But now my pain forgotten is:
I yearn for things of home;
For brighter seems the distant past,
When ever one must roam.

In Wesnoth, all the sky is blue
The grass a deeper green;
The sorry nag's decrepit coat
Takes on a brighter sheen.

But these, my mind rebukes my heart,
Are naught but wistful thought.
The light from dimmer star I see
Is all that Wesnoth caught.

What puts my mind at woeful loss
Is thought of home and kin:
No alter selves of these appear
To heal my grief within.

No friend this night will clasp my hand,
Nor children cross the plain.
My hearth, in Wesnoth firmly fixed,
Will e'er I see again?

If you're interested in story hints, here's a list of scenarios:

I've never played this campaign, but your poetry has me convinced. I'm off to download and play through it this evening.
Maintainer of the Imperial Era and the campaigns Dreams of Urduk, Epic of Vaniyera, Up from Slavery, Fall of Silvium, Alfhelm the Wise and Gali's Contract.
But perhaps 'maintainer' is too strong a word.

Here's one of the commissioned Deoran portraits headed into the campaign now that it's permitted. Art is by Astri Sjursen and licensed under the CC BY-SA 4.0.

I have another set of portraits on my harddrive and 2 more planned, but those will wait for another day.

Any idea of when the rest of the campaign will be released (or at least the second scenario)?
