How to publish?!

Post by J-bros »

The "distributing content" page on the wesnoth site tells me this:

Once you are ready to publish, here is how you access the add-on server:
Open Wesnoth
Select "Add-ons" from the main menu
Connect to the default add-ons.wesnoth.org add-on server
Select "Publish add-on: Your Add-on Name" (the last entry in the list of add-ons)

I can do the first three steps but I don't see the last entry that they're talking about. :oops:

Someone please help I'm a noob.

You have to put a .pbl file in the campaign folder. Open a simple txt file and fill these fields:
"title="My Campaign"
type="campaign"
icon="misc/ball.png"
version="0.1.2"
author="Me, artwork by myself"
passphrase="This is like a password"
description="You get to kill a lot of bad guys. But only the first map is done."
email="name@example.com" "
Then, save the txt as a .pbl file. When you will go on the add-ons server, the option "Publish your add-on" will appear if you search the name of your add-on ;)
Sorry for some english errors, but I'm Italian ;-)

Complete article, including the possible locations and names for the .pbl file.

This is off-topic, but is there a way to upload an add-on without using the game?

There is a command-line tool called wesnoth_addon_manager in $datadir/tools/.

That's a python script, so it may not be very usable depending on your platform (seems to work well on linux, at least for downloading).

I used the version in 1.9 successfully on windows rather recently, so this one is ok provided you are familiar with the command line...

I had the same problem as J-bros and was going to post a new topic about it until I came across this one. I already had a _server.pbl file that I created using the PblWML link in the Wiki but I am unable to find it in the add-ons list or anything at all. I tried having it within my campaign folder, out of it, and now back in it...and nothing has seemed to work. Anything I am missing?
It has everything in the _server.pbl file as well, I double checked it to the example one BlackJack25 gave.

Thanks,
fmac81

EDIT: Nevermind, I finally got it to work! :)

By campaign folder do you mean the folder in the gamedata place? I can't get this to work either.

It might be a redundant Information, but there are two possible locations for addons (in Windows):

C:\Games\Battle for Wesnoth 1.10.0\userdata\data\add-ons\youraddonfolder

or

C:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Wesnoth1.10\data\add-ons\youraddonfolder

In the addon folder you should have the files:

_main.cfg
_server.pbl
also your folders such as maps and scenarios.

If you than open add-ons your own scenarios should be displayed in green at the very bottom of the addon list and it should say: Publish add-on: Youraddonname .
I hope this post is helpful.
