The Fall of Wesnoth (yet to start)

Post by Coaxke »

One day I got this crazy idea in my mind while working on my RoC era... and I thought it might just work....

So I thought, what if Wesnoth didn't end how Under the Burning Suns or the Great Apocolypse saw it end, so I decided to make my own new version of The Fall of Wesnoth.

It will take place somewhere after 858 YW in a time most prophets fortold as the Dark Ages, at this time, the Wesnothian Empire stretched far to the North and South, but the Eastern border remained the same, to the East lie the Independent Elven Republics and Eastern Lands yet to be discovered by Wesnothian explorers.

So heres the layout.:

The Wesnothian Empire is ruled by a brutal dictator whose main goal is to destroy anyone and everyone who gets in his way, even if it means his own people. Thus, he has monstrously murdered and tortured thousands of Elves, Orcs, Summoners, Spell-Throwers (magi), and many other beings that don't belong to the human race, also completely exterminating the Dwarven Kingdoms of the North, and it is now rumored that the Dwarves have become extinct in a massive slaughter known as the Dark Dwarven Revelation. Now, a Rebellion of humans and Elves rise up to face the evil Lord that controls Wesnoth. And through the genocide, the Orcish clans of the North have their own plans for the new Wesnoth...

Seeing the Civil War in Wesnoth, the Orcs know that this is the perfect time to strike. More to come....

But overall this campaign will include: betrayal, love, and great companionship between the last surviving races of the Great Continent

One tip: in UtbS, there are some dwarves living, as well as Trolls (and Orcs), so they are not fully extinct.

As I said, I'm not going by UtBS, or the great apocolypse, again, I'm creating my own version of the end of days

If you ever played my campaign you'd know that there is no apocalypse, actually. Just a major change to Wesnoth's world.

Anyway, here you have some reference text of mine:
NOTE: this is only a brainstorming text on Wesnoth's historyline long after
Gawen Hagarthen's reign ends.

1096 YW: Delvhar II ascends to the throne of Wesnoth.

1099 YW: Two brother necromancers are dispatched and due to be sank into the
sea, after a battle on Erzen

1101 YW: One of these two brothers, Gwiti Ha'atel, is reported to be wandering
around the borders of the Empire of Wesnoth causing various revolts on Northern
orcish tribes.

1102 YW: Gwiti Ha'atel manages to steal the Dark Tome of Crelanu

1103 YW: The Northern Alliance calls upon the order of Light to stop Gwiti from
terrorizing the northern lands

1105 YW: A mysterious elvish maiden, under the name of Elynia, appears, with a
dark mage called Argan, offering help to stop Gwiti Ha'atel, whose undead army
has increased dangerously in size.

1107 YW: The serious problems caused by Gwiti Ha'atel on the frontiers force the
King to call upon the High Order of Archmagi to seek for long-terms solutions to
the undead menace.

1108 YW: Elynia and Argan get to defeat Gwiti Ha'atel by binding his spirit to a
rock that was buried deep into the earth.

1112 YW: After years of research, the High Order of Archmagi report that a new
sun should be lifted to the skies in order to destroy the darkness for the rest
of eternity. The King decreed that to be done.

1113 YW: Naia, the second sun, was born. The old sun was renamed Sela.

1120 YW: Delvhar II dies.

1121 YW: Delvhar III ascends to the throne.

1174 YW: A civil war is started due to the empire's decay and deterioring.

1175 YW: Wesmere elves contact Yanqui, who warns them of the oncoming peril. And
he proclaims himself a god to be worshipped by the inhabitants of Wesmere,
declaring all other elves or other races heretics.

1176 YW: Wesmere Forest stops having contact with other elven countries or
Wesnoth.

1178 YW: Delvhar III dies under strange circumstances

1179 YW: Zelshar I ascends to the throne.

1180 YW: Zelshar I decrees the creation of a third sun, Gaia, supposedly to
distract the attention from the civil war. However, this time the elvish lords
react and appear to convince the king of quitting and nullifying the decree.
Elynia, amongst them, tried to explain the King what could happen. The magi also
protested, but the king decreed the creation of this new sun to be done
immediately, rumored to have been related to a distraction on the odd death of
his predecessor.

0 YF: That same day, a third sun is lifted to the skies, but the power of the
magi, being weakened for the lack of experience resulting from the lack of
threats to protect the empire from, fails, and Gaia falls over Weldyn crushing
everything beneath it. A world-wide cataclysm is triggered. Wesnoth and Knalga
are completely destroyed.

The King survived, but he was murdered along with the magi by the uncontrollable
angry mobs. The relative calm amongst non-Wesmere elves, orcs and dwarves was
replaced by new wars.

0 YF - 10 YF: The light of the two suns helped to dry up the known lands,
destroying all forests, except Wesmere, as it was protected by great magical
powers, those of Yanqui.

10 YF: Many elves that went to Wesmere asking for shelter were sacrificed by the
priests of Yanqui's cult.

11 YF: Elynia and Argan lead their people out of the Northern Elvish Forests.

11 YF: Wesmere starts to send raiding groups to get more victims, as people
started to avoid the forest fearing for the disappeared ones.

12 YF - 13 YF: The War of Wesmere

The remaining elvish population was seriously reduced when they entered Wesmere
to be slaughtered. Elynia decides to start a war after learning the truth and
stop the cultists once and for all. However, that caused Yanqui's rage and he
revealed his true form.

Elynia and Argan call upon the Arcane Union of Light and Darkness to destroy
Yanqui, but they could not but stun and tear him apart. His pieces were
magically sealed and buried down into Inferno's soil. The portal that allowed
Yanqui to physically enter real world was destroyed.

However, Wesmere forest was burned down during the long fight. Its inhabitants
begged for their lives and confessed, but their priests were executed and their
corpses destroyed anyway, as they were the ones capable of summoning back
Yanqui. However, a high priestess, Anlindë, was kept alive by request of Alduil,
an Elvish champion.

After a discussion, Alduil and Anlindë head back to the Northlands, but east from
the former home of elves, with a small group, to the unknowns, seeking for a new
home. Tanuil (Alduil's brother) and most elves head south, for the same purpose.
Elynia and Argan go into the darkness feeling that elves did not need them any
longer.

15 YF: Tanuil's people adapt to live in the barren Great Southern Desert. Over
time, they lose their affinity to forests and embrace life in the sandy
wastelands. Meanwhile, Alduil and Anlindë find a new home in a hidden valley in
the unknown eastern lands. They name it the Valley of Elynia, and settle there,
defending the valley from strangers periodically, never going further.

19 YF: Under the leadership of Tanuil, the self-proclamed elves of Quenoth build
and sustain a fortified village around a rare oasis. The village thrives amidst
the hostilities of the desert.

37 YF: Kalehssar, son of Tanuil, is born.

39 YF: Nymphtessa is born.

46 YF: Keratur, son of Tanuil, is born.

64 YF: One night, a meteor storm rains from the sky and destroys the village of
the Quenoth elves. The next day, Tanuil, like many others, is missing and
presumed dead. Kalehssar (Kaleh), nephew of Tanuil, takes leadership of the
remaining Quenoth elves as the surviving next of kin. Kaleh, heeding the voice
of his god Eloh in his dreams, gathers the remaining Quenoth elves and leads
them north to a new promised land, foregoing rebuilding of their desert village.

65 YF: The Quenoth elves battle their way north through Undead, Orcs, Bandits
and other evil, venturing underground beneath a large mountain range at the
command of Eloh.

66 YF: Befriending unexpected allies underground, Kaleh's forces survive to the
other side of the mountain. Keratur, son of Tanuil and survivor of the
cataclysm, insane with fright attacks Kaleh. Kaleh defeats Keratur.

66 YF: Kaleh defies commands given him by a vision of Eloh.

67 YF: The Quenoth reach the ocean. Aided by Merfolk, they escape the mainland
and head for a newly discovered island, a place where the Quenoth may settle in
peace. On the island, the Quenoth confront Yechnagoth, the Eater of Souls and
impersonator of Eloh. Yechnagoth and her fellow Kagthanii are destroyed by the
Quenoth. Kaleh and the elves settle on their newfound, and newly named, Quenoth
Isle.

406 YF: Yruil, son of Alduil is born.

424 YF: Alduil dies after an extremely long lifespan.

530 YF: Galassen (Galas), son of Yruil and grandson of Alduil is born.

531 YF: Galas' mother, Illunnia, dies on her duty as part of one of the patrol
groups.

543 YF: Galas' father, Yruil, dies on his duty as leader of one of the patrol
groups.

544 YF: Galas ascends on the ranks of the hunters.

547 YF: A grand human group invades the Valley of Elynia, forcing Anlindë and
Galas to abandon their home. Galas is put to the leadership of the survivors.
Shortly after escaping the valley via a cave system, the group of forest elves
meets and defeats Mal Keshar, an ancient lich who, being almost invincible,
still decided to help the elves to seek for Elynia's aid.

549 YF: Galas, Anlindë and Mal Keshar find New Knalga, and gather help to find
Elynia in the deepest parts of the world.

550 YF: They find and awake Elynia.

551 YF: New Knalga is invaded by the followers of Chaos, and almost completely
destroyed. Anlindë sacrifices her own life so that the other elves, with Elynia,
Mal Keshar and the dwarves, can escape to safety in the northern lands, said to
be free from the influence of evil.

552 YF: The High Council of the Northern Aragwaithi declares war against the
Empire of Chaos, and starts a large-scale invasion along with their orcish
allies. Elynia and the others leave the elves in the safety of the northern
lands, and sneak into enemy territory.

554 YF: Elynia and Mal Keshar call upon the Union and destroy the mastermind of
the Empire, Argan.

560 YF: The forces of Chaos are completely destroyed, and the Great War ends.

Interesting.... I like how it flows with factions from the Extended Era.
Well... It won't really matter if there was an apocolypse or not (I simply read the wiki and that's what it said), since this era rewrites the history in my own way.

I'm planning for the first scenario to be the Wesnothian (human) siege of the Elven District of Elensfar (elves). Player will play as the Wesnothians as they advance on the Elven Palace with an army of mainly spearman, fencers, and catapults.

The second scenario will begin with the player taking up arms with the northern Orcish Invaders as they attack across the Ford of Abez as the Wesnothians are distracted at Elensfar.

The third scenario, the player will begin as the desperate Rebels as they are discovered in their base of operations and are forced to flee to avoid a massive loyalist attack. You and your comrades flee to the forest where you meet up with Elves that agree to help you create a new Wesnoth, but while staying, Orcs approach from the north of the forest, claiming the forest a perfect strategic position to launch a mass invasion on Wesnoth.

more to come....

Also, this campaign will consist of 3 episodes

Three? Man, you'd better start them now and ask for feedback later.

Heheh  right now it's still just an idea, I want to finish the Rise of Civilization era I'm making before I start on this. Just adding ideas into the brainstorm jar.

There's an issue with that timeline: the Quenoth village existed less than 50 years.

Yes, this timeline is a bit odd. I attended this adaption of forest leves to desert going on in generations (of elves, which means centuries), not in 30 years. The elves only have some old tales of how the third sun was launched, no living attestants.

Shove this part 39 YF - 67 YF at least 300 years later, I would say, maybe more. This seems not to conflict with your later history.

Also, Kalehssar is both son and nephew of Tanuil.

Wow, back in 1.3, I was developing a campaign with the exact same name, but I canceled it due to poor story. It had about 7 scenarios. It's on the 1.3 campaign server, feel free to use any of the ideas or code. (I can also send you the files if you want).

What's this annoying thing that appears at the bottom of every one of my posts?

Yeah, I started one too but didn't have the time to continue it. Didn't get far though so my stuff probably won't be much help (plus it was for 1.2 anyway).

Perhaps you don't have to make it totally ignore Under the Burning Suns, meaning the current Wesnothian empire falls, but another empire creates the second sun and thus the fall. While this still is contradictory, who knows? History can be misrecorded and it is plausible.
