Well, it probably won't surprise anyone that I don't see 2 as being any different then 1. To add fuel to the fire (what you wanted a resolution to this problem?) consider draco
which also has the aforementioned Draco as athenian lawmaker definition.
Ok here is yet another real word that perhaps might satisfy all parties (except 3)
Draconic-X where X is warrior,scout, whatever...
from http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=dracodraco
\Dra"co\, n. [L. See Dragon.] 1. (Astron.) The Dragon, a northern constellation within which is the north pole of the ecliptic.
2. A luminous exhalation from marshy grounds.
3. (Zo["o]l.) A genus of lizards. See Dragon, 6.

i believe one of the points of this thread is that just because someone else does/doesn't do something doesn't mean we have to or even can do/don't do that thing.isaac wrote:AFAIK Microprose's master of magic had a "Draconian" race
so, just because someone has a ''draconian' race that they made up doesn't mean it is good for us to.
we shouldn't make up race names, IMHO, when there are good names available.

Ok, call them 'draconic fighter', 'draconic warrior', just like you call elvish units 'elvish fighters' and 'elvish scouts'. but you still need a name for the race itself. the descriptor 'elvish' is connected to the name 'elf'. so what is 'draconic' connected to?

Ok.Sangel wrote:"Draco", the Latin word for Dragon, obviously.
but why not drake?
i jus think drake would sound better and be more recognizable as meaning 'dragonish'.

Exactly. Which is why Draconic is perfect. "Draco" = Dragon, "-nic" = Like a. It's a creature like a Dragon.
I don't think we need to worry about people not knowing that Draco is Latin for Dragon. They'll figure that out fairly fast when they see these guys.

Ummm. . . 'Drakian'
how about 'Drakian'. It stays true to the 'drak' part, without calling then 'Dragon X', and while getting away from our less than fine citizen 'Draco'. Or maybe, 'Draken'. . . Anyway, my .02.
