Hi all.
I am doing translation to czech language and I came to same problem as methinks.

But things has changed since. I started talking about encodings problem on another thread in Translations and Internationalization section of Forum.

Dave has written some basic support for UTF-8 encoding, so you can now translate BfW into polish - I think it was imposibble task before this was done.

I tried to get polish translation from v. 0.5 to work and I have
1) put new parametr

encoding=UTF-8

in the translation file (see some Dave's post)
2) changed encoding using iconv (ISO-8859-2 -> UTF-8 )
3) supply the engine with full TrueType font which supports also Polish characters (I believe) by removing Vera.ttf and putting better font on its place.

I think, that it is working (on my computer). Could you try it also, methinks ?? After all, I don't know Polish.

sample_translation.cfg is generated from a tool called make_translation which is distributed with the game. Enter,

Code: Select all

make make_translation
./make_translation > data/sample_translation.cfg

Is it possible to assign a different path to the 'data' dir, as an option? (not the defualt /usr/local/games/wesnoth-data/data)
like:

Code: Select all

./make_translation ~/wesnoth/data > data/sample_translation.cfg

Wesnoth allows you to do this, but make_translation doesn't.

New WesnothTranslations in Wiki

Post by skovbaer »

I'm now keeping you up-to-date with a new translator list on the Wiki-web... Take a look at the page here:

http://www.ventu.info/wesnoth/?WesnothTranslations

On WesnothTranslations you will also be able to check out the current development state of each translation... The page also holds some information about how to contribute to Wesnoth's internationalization...

some strings, that could not be translated

Post by Khiraly »

Sadly, some of the unit attributes could not be translated as the strings were not available. E.g. quick, intelligent, loyal, strong.

Yes, Dave probably knows how to solve that...

Yes, I just saw that... Thanks for your hard work :)
And I see you've done a LOT of work on the translation :)
That's great... I'll go update the translations wiki page right away...
And then I'm going to sleep... :)

You should be able to use trait_quick="...", trait_intelligent="..." etc.

The german translation is almost complete, but there is a problem with the new campaign. The message id's are re-used, so that you get the dialog from the other campaign, when you select a language different from english.

I don't know, where to post such troubles, I was happy with the fast reaction to my question about the ids for the traits, but my post about double ids in the scenario "Blackwater Port" seems to be in the wrong place.

So to be sure: where to post problems/bugs concerning the translation ?

Generally post in the Translations & Internationalization forum. The duplicate IDs are going to be looked at...

Um, Dave, shouldn't those simply be posted at Savannah as bugs?

Norwegian translation

Post by Lysander »

I have a Norwegian translation in progress (manual done, norwegian.cfg ~40% done), and wonders if there is anybody else here interested in helping/proofreading/editing? Fluency in Norwegian a definitive plus. Maybe Circon is interested? Anyway, I'll send it to skovbaer when it's done. Anything I need to know about translation/internationalization?
