What is the meaning of on guard in
hasty_3="On guard!" ?
Is it a shout to tell the guards to stand up or is it someone who is telling the other to watch out?

It is "En garde", even when spoken by English-speakers (who are then obviously speaking French), not "on guard".fmunoz wrote:"On guard!" is used as usually in fencing (En gárde!) before attacking your enemy... just a sign of gentlemanish
It is indeed a gentlemanly "Get ready, because I'm going to start fighting with you."
It is borrowed, just like "touché."
