Wesnoth month names

Post by GunChleoc »

In this string:
12 V, 363 YW\nExcerpt from the journal of Baran of Maghre...
"YW" obviously means "Year Wesnoth", but what does "V" stand for? It would be good to have a list of month names available somewhere, e.g. on https://wiki.wesnoth.org/TranslatorsGuide

ETA: Found it. It's a Roman numeral.

Yeah, the Wesnothians somehow know them ...
The date refers to the 12th day of the pasture or flower moon, the month of joy or the three milkings …
Or maybe of some heathen Scottish Gaelic divinity of an olden time?
Do you translate such date information as specified?
It would, indeed, make sense to create a regional list of month names for Wesnoth.
As to the elves, the dwarves, the orcs (?) … :hmm:
Well, the fifth month of the year x of Wesnoth is a cross-cultural solution. :D

If they had some Fantasy names, I would have transliterated them to fit Gaelic spelling rules - we don't us the letter V. I like the cross-cultural solution. In real life, new year (e.g. Western vs. Chinese) doesn't always start on the same day etc, but that would become complicated not only for writers but for players as well.

There are seasons, to be sure, but i havent seen a campaign that depends on precise month names or ordinals. They always move forward watch by watch, day by day.
