Re: Translation Policy... perhaps something need to be chang
If we start to discuss who whould be credited for the translation, I think we're going off road, off road a lot ..Elvish_Hunter wrote:Well then. I added mich to the Italian translation credits in trunk, r52586. mich, if you want to be added with your real name, just drop me a line. Ivanovic, can you please add mich to the Translators group?luciano wrote:It was. I did check for typos and style conventions, but the credits go to him, for sure.
I think that the purpose of this discussion is to have someone who is committed to promoting the translation, coordinate translators, ...

I completely agree with luigit: we're not here to discuss who should be credited for translations. What we hope is that someone realizes that Italian translation is in a quite hard situation, and to plan a new organization of this work. We're talking about it in WIF too, at the page: http://wif.altervista.org/index.php/top ... l#msg31021. I personally beg everyone not to forget this topic, as I really hope we find a satisfactory solution to the problem. In particular, I would like luciano to be more active in this discussion, as he is directly interested in these matters. A quick comment about mich's translation is not really what I (and I could say we) expect from him.

Hello to everyone.
My 2 cents contribution, as one of the official translator. A small discussion is going on in the "official" italian mail-list of the translators, since Luciano made a step back due to his personal status. He proposed me to step-in as maintainer and I accepted his invitation as candidate. If the translation communit has no objections, I'll be honoured to be the new maintainer.
However, I think that is essential for the Italian community to find a new maintainer at first and then set up the best developing strategy, count the volunteers, use forums, mailing-lists, wiki, whatever...

Yeah, but the maintainer is an active developer, so it kind of doesn't count.

This is my first post here, but if I may:
How about using a translation platform like one of the following:
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Main_Page
https://www.transifex.com/
http://pootle.locamotion.org/
https://translations.launchpad.net/
You could have a group of language maintainers there who can approve translations, and a group of "footsoldiers" who can submit suggestions. This way, if one of the language maintainers is busy or on holidays or something, the group can still go on. Also, no need to worry about merging translations.
