about to translate my own campaign

Post by Adamant14 »

How difficult is it to translate a campaign?
Its about my own little campaign, that I want to translate in my mother tongue.

Can somebody tell me something about it.
Give me some instructions or a link where I can read about.

Or is it too difficult, or too much work?

Thank you

Is not very difficult. Read in the wiki about the PO files. If it is only one campaign, in one language, it is just one file do edit.

I use poEdit. It is free and is really good and intuitive, try it. Search in the Google for it.
With the poEdit, try to edit a PO file.

Yes. Poedit is a great program to convert PO files to MO files that Wesnoth can read. If your campaign is listed here, you just need to download your language' one. But if not, I think that you might have to create PO file yourself. (I hope not. I mean I am having the same problem. I will soon ask about it to Ivanovic or Torangan.) Actually, creating PO file ourselves looks complicated. You can use someone else's PO file as an example. Then change its extension .txt to .po before converting it to MO file.

Another way to have the PO file (if it is not listed on the branch) is to wait a while after publishing your campaign on the server. Make sure translate="true" on your _server.pbl of your campaign. The PO file of your campaign is supposed to be appeared on the list.

No, my campaign is not on the list.
Its still in progress.

You recommend me to wait, but what exactly is the advantage to wait?
Someone makes a PO file for me when my campaign is on the server?

A script generates a PO file for you and throws it here. (see the unofficial part)

This script has to be run by a human being, so it may take a couple of days unless you go annoy people on IRC.
