Wesnoth 1.14.0 — New Horizons Update

Post by Iris »

Three years after the release of version 1.12.0, the time for big changes has come again. The development team is proud to present The Battle for Wesnoth 1.14.0 (New Horizons Update), the first release of a brand-new stable series delivering many new features that are sure to improve and revitalize the game experience for players old and new — and especially new, as this occasion also coincides with Wesnoth’s official debut on the Steam store!

Many technical improvements to Wesnoth’s game engine, the addition of Secrets of the Ancients in mainline, the full redesign of the desert elves from Under the Burning Suns, and the inclusion of several new multiplayer maps, are just a few of the exciting news for this release series. For more information, you can check our official release notes.

This stable series is compatible with previous 1.14 Release Candidates (1.13.12 through 1.13.14). The source code and ready-to-use packages for Windows and macOS are already available on the downloads page.

As always, we appreciate all your feedback and we are ready to read your messages in the forum thread with the full announcement, which also includes a list of bug fixes since 1.14 RC 3.

We hope there are no game-breaking bugs left in this version, but should you find any, make sure to report them to us!

Being a community-driven open-source project with over 6 million downloads on SourceForge.net and over 72,000 commits on GitHub, The Battle for Wesnoth is always looking for help in various areas of development. We are in particular need of C++ programmers comfortable working with Windows, macOS, and Linux systems; graphic artists capable of creating new portraits, animated unit sprites, terrain art, and campaign story illustrations; sound artists; translators; and WML coders able to maintain any of our mainline campaigns. If you want to help develop future versions of Wesnoth, come join us in our official forums board and our official Discord server.
