Actually, I am studying magic at university, Ok, I told them that I was studying Ancient Near-Eastern religions, occult and mythology, but actually I'm studying magic.

Of course it doesn't help that my lecturers keep telling me that I have great potential but they have to fail me because of the lack of respect I show for accademic conventions and the controvertial ways in which I phrase things sometimes. So, young M_C, despite showing potential and some ability was unable to complete his studies of magic at the university because of his crappy attitude but he resloved to continue his studies of magic on his own...

As I understand it, the defense takes place at the courtyard after shooting.
