The 'weakest' level 3 units in the game.

Post by MathBrush »

I love looking into statistics about this game.

I was investigating the level 3 units with the weakest attacks, and I discovered that everyone does at least 24 damage at level 3.

The ones that do exactly 24 are:

-Hurricane Drake
-Elvish Shyde
-Merman Entangler
-Assassin

Interestingly, these units are all some of the best units in the game.

Hurricane Drakes are some of the most reliable units in the game. They do 24 damage no matter if its ranged or melee. In ranged, the attack percentage is at least 60%, and their defense is always 60%.

Both the Hurricane Drake and Elvish Shyde can fly, and both the elvish shyde and merman entangler have amazing slow abilities.

And finally, the assassin has skirmish, backstab, and poison. These are incredible; I once killed a fire dragon in TRoW with just an assassin and the king.

The weakest in terms of hitpoints are the Nightgaunt, the Spectre, and the Mermaid Diviner.

So does he deal ‘only’ 24 damage?

Haha, right? I like how the game balances all of the different higher level units. You're right, he does do 48 damage, but only with assistance...

Although Highwayman (level 3 thugs) seem to be pretty terrible. Low health, bad defense and resistances, average movement, no ranged. They always die when I use them in Liberty.

Also Orcish Slurbows in Son of the Black Eye.

Highwaymen are specialists rather than the mainstay of your army. They are great for fighting at the edge of a forest against skeletons and any other unit vulnerable to impact damage. If you're playing a bandit-style campaign you'll rely on your footpads and clinical strikes with your Assassins in any case. Your hand-to-hand fighters would be Rangers if you can get them.

Of course, in Northern Rebirth you get to also use Dwarf Lords so you don't neet that much impact damage… except that four strikes at night (or at the entrance to a cave during daytime!) can seriously clobber even a Death Knight.

Hahahaha, that's a good one. I've always thought the Elvish Lady should have leadership as a trait, but still. :)
