Old Portrait for Konrad & Li'sar

Post by rkd2003 »

I like old version portrait only for Konrad and Li'sar.

I can't be immersed in Wesnoth canpaign storyline by these new version portraits... because they look like too old.

I know they are just a boy and girl...

All other portraits are really really improved! but I think Konrad and Li'sar are not...

and they're clothes unmatched in-game dot character even. (new version portrait)

so, I attatch old portrait zip file.

If you want this, unzip and open readme.txt file.

Then you know where these files should be located in.

File location: Wesnoth\data\campaigns\Heir_To_The_Throne\images\portraits

Note that there're multiple portraits for different status of Konrad and Li'sar
It pronounces Sha'ha, not Zara.

Heh, most in Russian community thinks the same, especially about Li'sar.
But this is not welcomed theme here I suspect.
Crowds cannot understand high concept
But I personally do not care about it much. If you take Wesnoth storyline, Li'sar by no means was just a girl, she was experienced and even tough fighter and commander.
Anycase you can just download some old verison of Wesnoth and play HttT with it.

Oh, Is she experienced and even tough fighter and commander?

I didn't know! hahaha. ^_^ :) :D

I thought she is just a tough princess and almost same age as Konrad.

Anyway, someone will like this portrait. :P

While Konrad was sitting in the elvish forest all his youth, Li'sar was quite busy suppressing recurring rebellions against the rule of Asheviere.

The reason these portraits were replaced was because they look like they belong in an anime :P

Wesnoth is played by youngsters mostly. They easely can associate themselves with Konrad. And hence to associate Li'sar with thier potential girlfriend. Thats why old portraits were so popular.
Now offering Li'sar as mature women, the game cutting one of the ways it was attractive.
Well, I am saying obvious things :D

What's so wrong about anime-style art? It's just a bit stylishly different from other art, that's all. Some people have concerns over artwork being slighlty different in style indeed, like SlyVenom, but I believe that most people agree that the portrait should fit the role (portrait for Asheviere? why not Mal Keshar? that's a good looking portrait!).

The artwork quality of the new portraits in HttT is very high. However, it somewhat fails in another place. Konrad is supposed to be a boy somewhat naïve in the cruel reality of world, in a medieval setting that would throw him somewhere in the age range between 14 and 18. Keeping innocence for long in the battle-torn world. The old portrait fitted this. The new one, however, looks older than me, battle hardened and as muscled as Arnold Schwarzenegger. Li'sar, in contrary, has some battle experience, but she's a woman in fiction. She's not supposed to be so ugly. Why the heck is she a clone of Brienne of Tarth? Furthermore, she's clearly older than Konrad, which makes their relationship look less likely. And, as Aldarisvet pointed out, it's supposed to be played by youngsters who would definitely not immerse into Konrad's skin this way.

Not as ugly as the human characters from Descent into Darkness, but yes, it's a pretty portrait of an unpretty person. However, maybe it's just a preference of me and our Russian friends. наши девочки красивее!

Well, new Li'sar not ugly at all, but she is not beautiful, she is too brutal (especially her gaze is really tough).
In fact compared with new Lisar new portrait of Konrad looks even ehh... feminine. Or infantile.
Thats absoultely logical for me, all elves looks feminine compared with human males, and he grown amongst elves.
I am ok with new portraits given storyline we have.
The only question I actually have is that what Konrad found in so infeminine brutal field commander.
Jeanne d'Arc wouldnt be my choice :|

@Dugi ;) heh, not all of them, but

Well, I am saying obvious things :D
I'm playing last senario now.

Delfador Says, "I have not looked upon this city for seventeen years."

and before another mission, The Elven Council said "Konrad was infant."

Then... The age of Konrad is assumed 17~19. (Wiki : birth. ~499-501 YW)
and, Li'sar is almost same age. 18~21. (Wiki : birth. 498 YW)

So, I think old portrait makes Wesnoth canpaign storyline easily immersed.
And, Their speech and action are so young(some childish?), I think.
Especially Li'sar's actions sometimes very impudent. (I can't think what are proud or pride.)
That makes them look like teenage to me.

That's why I thought 'I can't be immersed in Wesnoth canpaign storyline by these new version portraits'

I was surprised other people do not think so.

That's all. Just In my case.

Then, enjoy battle for wesnoth~. ;) :)

I may be in a minority, but I actually consider the new Li'sar portrait to be considerably more attractive.

On the other hand, I don't feel like it really fits her established character (or unit) very well. It feels like it's supposed to be someone else.

Just to clarify the age thingy: If you want the exact numbers, you can find them here. Konrad is 17 (should turn 18 somewhere in the campaign) and Li'sar is two years older.
