I saw a banner on sourceforge and just downloaded bfw, I believe sometime around 2006/7.
I have a cunning plan.

I found it in the synaptic package manager, 2 years ago.
Re: How did you find out about Wesnoth?
I found it in OpenSUSE’s package manager back in 2005 (when it was called SUSE Linux). Then I ditched it after a brief look.

My dad found it for me, and I gave it a shot. Not sure exactly when. It was 1.2.5., I believe, which was released in summer 2007, but I joined here in summer 2008 (I was a member before August 9th...The forum crashed). So, 2007-2008.

Found it on Wikipedia, too, checking for definition of "sprite":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_(c ... _graphics)
Curious about "A sprite of a fencer unit from Wesnoth" (see: 1.2 Sprites by software)
Another reference to BfW on Wikipedia: the Lich portrait!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lich
... or an example of markedly well done Hex map:

I got it from a friend who himself got got it from his father. Must have been around 1.0 or 1.2 when I first saw it. While they play other games by now it seems I got stuck on wesnoth

I was looking for easily mod-able games, preferably free. I found Dwarf Fortress first but found Wesnoth soon after through those forums. That was... 3-4 years ago.

Re: How did you find out about Wesnoth?
Back in December 2010, I had decided I wanted to find a new game to play. Erfworld was my favorite comic at the time (still is), and I thought it would be great if I could find a game that had casters & battle strategy that played like it. So, I took a look through the some of the games & gaming forums there for suggestions. Several posts mentioned Wesnoth...
