archers : ranged attack ?

when I try to use archers for a ranged attack, they automatically move next to the enemy ? is this supposed to work this way ? mages , shaman's use ranged attacks ? thanks

Ranged attacks work usually from rightclick menu. Then again most units do not have ranged attacks so you need to search first for those addons that allow it.

Yes, you can only attack from adjacent hexes, even with ranged attacks. Ravana is talking only about some rare add-ons.
