Campaigns w/ massive armies and battles

Post by Nicknick »

Are there any? New player here. Haven't played the campaigns yet, but HttT. Very high quality but most maps had either very restrictive time limit(big army pointless) or no gold to support it.

Northern Rebirth is very hard and a little bit strange -- starting with peasants, for example. You might try The Rise of Wesnoth which has a huge variety of units, fairly large battles (I think Clearwater Port is the best scenario in any campaign), plenty of time to build up a huge army, and a huge battle at the end. Though you don't want to recall every high-level unit for every battle, you want to keep recruiting low-level units and build them up. You'll need them all at the end.

Northern Rebirth: Scenario I

Vast waves of peasants
Crash against walls of Orc steel
Victory is near

You should really try it out :lol2:

Yay, thats some pretty intense fighting. Lots of caves, lots of undead. Totally the Moria feeling. I was like, wtf.(they got me)

I more or less agree with what's been said so far. Though other campaigns (including HttT's final scenario) have the odd big battle, the only campaign I can think of which features many really large battles is Northern Rebirth (large meaning dozens or hundreds of units on either side).

Son of the Black Eye?

There are some pretty large fights in that if you save your gold, and the last 2 scenarios can end up as really huge carnage

Eastern Fortress (NR) is just a great scenario, so far my fav in big battles (that is not in a cave).

TL's World Conquest on the Multiplayer server probably has the biggest battles of them all.
I suspect having one foot in the past is the best way to understand the present.
