I dont really share the enthusiasm regarding Yechnagoth. I never felt threatened by her at all and she was more like a very powerful but kind of stupid child.
Certainly the difficulty of the bossfight added to this view. On 'normal' difficulty it was a piece of cake. Not even close to the fort in that regard.
Additionally she wasnt even really threatening you after you destroyed her avatar for the first time, you could have walked away instead of hunting her.

Maybe I just missed some points (as there is a lot of text involved), but I never got WHY she actually had to lure the elves instead of enslaving all of the merfolk or someone else already around there. Sounds like a lot of work with at least some risk involved und no proper reward.

Help me to favor her as well.

As for now I'll help getting the list some shorter. Thelarion just doesnt meet the requirements to be a memorable villian.

Thelarion definitely sucks. The most memorable thing about him was the scene where the Orcs killed him and threw him into a frozen lake.

I can't think of any villain in Wesnoth who I find impressive, really. Nothing like Xykon(from The Order of The Stick). Just your cliched Orcish great chiefs, maniacal Liches or necromancers, people corrupted by the Book/Potion of Crelanu, and other boring fare. So I'm just going to use the -2 option everywhere.

Yechnagoth's "final" appearance was something shocking when I played UtBS back when it was a user-made add-on, in the times of Wesnoth 1.0.2. Since I played UtBS, I have never found any other campaign that has thrilled me like that. Granted, it's better known for its bugginess since it was mainlined, but the plot IMHO easily beats e.g. HttT.

No, I have nothing against HttT as a whole, but I simply hate the last two scenarios. The "Trial of the Clans" seemed to be some sort of a joke when I first played it, and I can't say anything different about "Battle for Wesnoth" - that's the worst scenario of the campaign, overall. Not much interesting dialogue*, Asheviere turns out to be a wimp awaiting in her throne to be slain by any regular soldier, and if you don't have the appropriate recalls/gold combination, the scenario can easily become ridiculously hard or ridiculously easy. It doesn't deserve to bear the name of the game.

* Okay, okay, it is a bit better than 1.0 nowadays, but it's still a very weak point for HttT.

It makes some sense that Asheviere would cower on her throne. She is after all, a Queen, and not a soldier. The smart evil ruler sends their minions to die in their place.

I found the end scenario to HttT to be extremely difficult, but that's a good thing. If Asheviere came out and fought, it would probably be much easier to cut her off and kill her.

I'm a bit less fond of the Clan scenario. I don't feel it really serves any nessissary purpose in the campaign, and its absurdly hard without a lot of powerful troops.

Asheviere's not that pathetic a villain. She ruled most of Wesnoth for a while, was the main antagonist of at least two campaigns including the "main" campaign (HttT), and built up quite a powerful coalition.

No, she's not great, but I don't think she deserves to be knocked out of the running this early.
