Post by telex4 »

Just thought I'd say that I love the new animated villages with the rising smoke... a very nice touch :)

Animated villages? Who did the artwork? (Yet another reason why I'm eagerly awaiting version 0.8.1 to be ported to OS X.)

Although on a related note, I don't seem to be able to capture villages, which is a bit of a pain! I can move onto their hexes, but I don't take ownership.

Did you check if village count in top bar changes when you capture new village? Is it graphics problem with flags or can't you really capture villages?

The village count doesn't go up either.

But more importantly, what about income and healing?

I assume that if your village count doesn't go up, you won't get income. However you'll probably still get healing.

Okay... animated .gif
But a screenshot would still look slightly different.

OK, here's a screenshot. Basically, between dusk and dawn that smoke is subtly animated 8)

I like the animated villages, but it looks a little weird when there are lots of villages on the screen, because all the smoke plumes are writhing in sync. I wonder if just offsetting each village's animation by a different pseudorandom amount would help?

I also find these new animations a little too "twitchy" or "wiggly" (sorry, I can't think of a better way to describe it); could they maybe be slowed down (smoke curling slowly) or made less regular (flags occasionally flapping)?

(EDIT) Having played a longer game with the animated villages, I think it's not much of a problem on most maps. It still looks weird when villages are right next to each other, but I don't notice it much when I'm thinking about playing the game.
