By the way, is the wesnoth worldmap available in higher detail? Or are campaign developers free to 'fill in' smaller parts of the world to their own liking?

Of course; the beauty of open source is that you're free to edit -anything-.

And for the record, I did like the scenic maps myself; I think that their uncluttered feel helped to convey the KISS nature of the game. It would be great if someone designed a new startup graphic that took into consideration Kitty's objections.
