Is this forum going down slowly?

Post by woodmouse »

The title says it all. Activity has dropped, I think. I'm not sure, though. But it seems like it to me... :(

Activity is seasonal? Lots of people just back to school/university? Busy catching up in RL.

Plus, more and more mainline development takes place behind the scenes and many UMC contributors just get on with it without much forum activity.

And Turin is gone.... :P

I miss the old summer times where people spammed the forums because they got nothing to do. Sure seems like everyone is busy nowadays.

I have the feeling that before start of my wesbreak(a year ago or so) forums were much more active, especially the off-topic section(remember these 100-page-long god-no-god topics?).

This reminds me of a nice sentence:

"Some people talk to say something. And some people talk when they have something to say". I might have even read it in a signature somewhere here.

If reduced activity means we are going for the second: Perfect :) .

The variation of the quote above that I've heard was "Wise men know of what they speak. Fools speak of what they know."
I'm just... a guy...
I'm back for now, I might get started on some work again.

I think the moderators finally cowed the users. :P

But, yeah, school.
I know I have been rather busy of late with school and life.

Also, the IRC channels seem small and extremely silent.
The mailing list, seems quiet too...
This is a worrying trend, but hopefully only temporary. Wesnoth will never gather mass appeal, is is a game that is nicely out of synch with the popular 3D and/or sub-second commercial arcade games.

Is wesnoth... finishing? Has it finally reached the unprovable stage, when it is all so high-quality that any work will degrade it?
I sure hope not.

Well even if the main stuff is there is still thousands of UMC that will always being made and need help etc. Although the mainline might finish i think new stuff will always be thought up by new people that find Wesnoth.

Heya, guys. I've been out of activities for a while, because of school (maybe you've been figured it out already). I agree that maybe the forum is slowing down a little, but I think it's perfectly normal.
By the way... did I missed something? :)

PS to woodmouse: I'll try to code the first scenarios for SXC, in my rare spare time.
PS to Eolith: Same as above, but for the Art thread and the rest of Dark Century instead.
Trust yourself first, then trust others.
Current activity/ies: what...!?

Most of it, I'm sure, has to do with people starting back to school.
God bless,

I figured this would happen when no developers attempted to help promising user-made creations. Nothing else gets into the game, and the game does not significantly change, so there's no reason to keep playing the same product that does not evolve.

That is why I loved bob-the-mighty, and all the other UMC people who kept the game fresh with new ideas and creations.

The basic game gets old fast. The promise of being able to create something fun kept me around longer. When my work seemingly went unappreciated I had no reason to stay any longer.

EoM was appreciated, as was the "How to play ..." series.
