i am rather fond of the arch mage and dwarvish lord, but the lancer is a wicked level two unit that can be a fighting leader. i like them for northern opponents.

Well... I can't choose a race, so my favorite one in each is:

Rebels- "Tree Hugger" = Ranger.
Loyalists- "The Boss" = Lieutenant.
Knalgan Alliance- "Revenge" = Rogue.
Undead- "Rolling Bones" = Deathblade.
Northerners- "The Stoner" = Troll Rocklobber.
Drakes- "Microwave" = Fire Drake.

The Iron Mauler's one of them, because he's roughly the size of a skyscraper and deals large amounts of damage to everything.

But I think my most favorite (is that a real phrase?) is the Overlord, the last level in the Death Knight line (Extended Era, Chaos faction). He's huge, coated in Demonic armor, and astride some sort of dark horse. One of the toughest, and deadliest units.
And here in the night,
as I feel the inferno.
And stare in the dark,
thinking what is eternal.

The man or the moment,
the act, or the reason?
These thoughts fill my head
as I contemplate treason.

Thats if the Iron mauler hits anything.

I prefer sharpshooters. They're realiable and deadly, plus they're easier to level up when compared to mages.

That Leader rockz everything. Poisening and damaging with high resistences. Just nice.

My units of choice are the Lieutenant-tree and the Elvish Fighter (Advancing to Captain)-tree. Leadership just rocks, especially with horsemen...

As for default era, I'm going to go with lieutenant.

But if it was AoH, I would have to go with the Troll Warrior. His blade and pierce resistance, regeneration, and awesome hammer make him unstoppable.

I don't think you can get a Necrophage leader on Random.

I have been having great fun with a Silver Mage in Age of Heroes. A few games with a Drake Flameheart on Isar's has been very relaxing too.

A Sharpshooter on Clash is absolutely awesome. Elvish Druid or sorceress are good too. I've had some fun with the Ranger's ambush. In fact, most of the Elvish leaders are cool. The faster ones are great fun on Castle Hopping Isle (before Doc rebalanced it).

Drake leaders also tend to be awesome on the smaller maps.

Troll rocks too.

I know! On tiny maps with some water and mountains they are very scarreh indeed on the second turn, or surprising on the first if you don't knick a village.
My favourite leader is the Dwarven Lord on AoH and any sort of Troll on Default, because they are very hard to kill.

Trolls!
Peikot tykkäävät hutkia. Peikot ovat pahoja. Peikot eivät kysele, vaan tekevät. Ja miten. Jälkeä syntyy kuin unissaan hortoilevlta puskutraktorilta.
