The Unofficial Wesnoth League

Post by egbert »

There's nothing that I like better than a quick game of Wesnoth, and during my free time, I check the Wesnoth server to see if there are any free people. However, due to my time zone and the fact that the majority of players are playing games already, I can seldom find a game without spending a half hour just hanging out in the lobby. Not to mention so many games are RPG's or have some weird Era.

I'm almost positive that other people do the same thing I do, and pop on every once in a while to see if people are free.

So, I did a quick search and I found something about a Wesnoth league ; however, it seemed very old and it didn't seem to be a very good idea in the first place.

I suppose that people could use the forum and say
"Does anybody want to play a 1v1 around 16:00 GMT",

but people don't seem to do that.

Is there some sort of place for people to arrange games in existence that people actually use, and if not, would people be willing to form one and be interested in utilizing it?

Edit:

Ok, I've formed one. Scroll down to see how to join.

There are many people who only want to play with their friends, or have dated a game. I always try to get a game by creating one on myself.
First read, then think. Read again, think again. And then post!

The Wesnoth IRC channel is often used for the purpose of organizing games.
I can be stupid too! Thus, I hate myself. ;)

I suppose it would just get a bit cluttered if people started asking for games in the forum. Plus you'd get frowned upon by the old woses. :)

But I don’t see anything stopping someone from just making a new league of sorts.

Hmm. . .

I made a google group for the purposes stated above.

http://groups.google.com/group/WesLeague
So anyone interested can post there, I suppose.

And I made a little ladder.

Our google group is off to a great start with all of three members, and one game currently being arranged.

Why make an all new ladder with 3 or 4 people? Just join this old one.

I don't know, it seem to be an inactive ladder group.
Plus there is little if any way to communicate.

Plus I like the google group I am in.

Yes really. I have been pleased with Google groups in the past and think that it is an efficient way to do these sorts of things. I'm sure that other things such as that ladder are very fine indeed for those sort of things, but, as Kiba said, it is difficult to communicate.

And of course, if you can't communicate, your group isn't very strong.

If people keep posting like they have been (all three of us), it won't fall inactive like the others.

Ok, we just had our first league game (Kiba won).

It was great fun and I hope some of you will try it out too!
