Wesnoth 0.8.9

Post by isaac »

http://files.wesnoth.org/ herrunterladen.

And now in English ...

Post by isaac »

It has been almost two months since the last release, but we are proud to
announce Battle for Wesnoth 0.8.9. The official announcement will be in
German to honor the fellow German translators who have reached 100% of
strings.

This release adds a new unit to the game, graphics and animations for lots of
existing units and new portraits for Heir to the Throne. A new set of terrain
tiles is also available for tropical climate.

Lots of scenarios in Heir to the Throne, The Rise of Wesnoth and Eastern
Invasion have been balanced. Several units have also been balanced a bit.

Wesnoth 0.8.9 also includes two new translations (Bulgarian and Latin!) and
updates to almost every translation.

Of course, lots of bugs have been fixed, specially in multiplayer mode.

You can check details at http://changelog.wesnoth.org.

Downloads:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download

Wesnoth-lite should be fully working Wesnoth, it just lacks music and story
images (making it smaller and therefore faster to download):

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download

As a fallback you can also get files from
http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files
through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

devsrv.wesnoth.org will soon be running 0.8.9 and can be used for multiplayer games.

Instructions for bug reporting can be found -
http://wesnoth.slack.it/?ReportingBugs

Debian GNU/Linux, Mandrakelinux, Mac OS X, BeOS and Microsoft Windows
packagers have been informed.

Enjoy it.

Cool! 0.8.9.

*reads announcement*

Unfortunately for the german translators, I have a backlog of strings I need to change, so they won't have 100% for all that long.
For I am Turin Turambar - Master of Doom, by doom mastered. On permanent Wesbreak. Will not respond to private messages. Sorry!

Well, I suppose with this update, I should probably come back.

So, when can we expect an OS X version?
Darkness called… But I was on the phone, so I missed him. I tried to *69 Darkness, but his machine picked up. I yelled "PICK UP THE PHONE, DARKNESS!", but he ignored me. Darkness must have been screening his calls.

Well one of us has to do it. I'll distract the translators, you hit commit :)

Actually the Javalineer was added in early december, but missed the 0.8.8 deadline. Still, it's a cool unit.

@Turin: just commit your changes. We are quite fast with updating the translation now that it is done. We are at least as fast as the swedish translator, sometimes even faster. We even got translated man-pages :)

Why does it take longer to make the mac version?

Just interested, this is in no way meant to be a rant...

The developers just release the original source code for Wesnoth. People (like Dave) tend to release a compiled version for Windows rather quickly. Until a few months ago Sithrandel was in charge of compiling the mac versions, though it often took a few days for him to do so. Since then other mac users have been good enough to post compiled versions for other users. But there's always been a time lag. It may seem annoying, but we should just be greatful the game is being ported to OS X at all.

Yeah, I am very grateful that this is ported to Mac OS and linux and so on. I was just wondering why it took longer to get the Mac stuff compiled...

I'll just sit back and wait patiently for the new release. :D
