Problem with 1.10.7 for window

Post by boblemalade »

Hello,
I wanted to download wesnoth on my new computer after over a year of not playing. I tried to install 3 times the 1.10.7 MS window version but each time the same message appeared after I tried to launch the installer :

NSIS Error
«Installer integrity check has failed.»

Any idea what I do wrong? I have window 8.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

EDIT: I also just tried 1.10.6, with the same result.

I tried to install 3 times
Does that mean that you downloaded the installer 3 times, or just ran the same executable over again? The error message very much sounds like a file corruption problem, try redownloading the installer if you haven't done that yet. Make sure that the process successfully finishes, some browsers sometimes silently fail downloading large files, leaving you with a corrupt executable.

I downloaded the installer 3 times, and ran each executable downloaded multiple time. I use the newest version of google chrome as browser, is it know to fail? The size of the files is the same as it suppose to be.

It must be something else, then. Three corrupted downloads in a row is more than unlikely. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Windows 8 machine, so I'm unable to look into it further, sorry. Let's hope someone else can help.

What is the size of the installer, and how much free diskspace do you have on your drive?

Sourceforge shows wesnoth-1.10.7-win32.exe as being 319.5 MB in size. 311575 KiB ~ 304.3 MiB ~ 319.5 MB, so that looks correct, at least.

You could hash the file to see if it matches the ones published by sourceforge. (SHA1: d431d192a022937dc8f80756308c64d32d06a04c, MD5: d48083caa96e4e51feb41eb61b2a6ac7)
Googling for "windows md5" returns a number of ways to do this.

If that checks out, then I suspect an overzealous virusscanner or something like that.

I did what you told me with MD5 for 2 of the installer (both from the official download link) and both give me different result.
First one give me 9faa01301135c4a69c3be91a25b4d0c4
Second one give me 80c3e9bc8fa40fc394dfe71f3acb7a82

My antivirus is Avira.
Also, everytime I try to open the installer for the first time, window smart screen warm me the editor can't be verified, and ask me if I want to continue.

Hope that help. Thank you for your time.

Well, that means the file you have isn't exactly the same as the file we uploaded to sourceforge. You may have multiple corrupted downloads here.

The NSIS integrity check does pretty much the same thing.

Have you had trouble downloading other big files?

I had no trouble downloading big file before, but they all came from Steam, with the exceptions of 3; League of Legend installer. an Origin game and SolidWork, and engineering tool.
Tomorrow, I will have access to computer at my school, I will try to install then transfer it to my owm. Will come back to you if it work, since it may simply be my wifi that cause problem.

And this is why it's actually a good idea to use bittorrent to download large open source games. Not only can you "pay back" the download bandwidth you got, you also get a free file integrity check and re-download. http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Download mentions "torrents are unofficial", which I guess means they won't link to any. That's too bad.

Hello, I downloaded the installer on my school computer, then transfered the installer to my computer. The file was 4 Ko bigger, and it was enough to make it work.
The game was successfully installed on my computer.
Thank you for your help.
