Wesnoth on GNU/Linux embedded devices

Post by GNUtoo »

Hi,
stock wesnoth runs fast enough on GNU/Linux embedded devices but there are a lot of rough edges such as gui problems.
There are also random bugs

The biggest problems is the ram(the htcdream and the openmoko have respectively 110M and nearly 128M usable by the system...that has to be shared by the GUI,xorg, and the phone stack(which is rewriten in vala for lower memory footprint))
The GUI resolution can be fixed easily
here are the mandatory short videos(maybe I'll make better one but I had a hard time producing something that I could upload)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXditrFNS50
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGDINuoyYbM

here's the setup:
*SHR armv4 distribution for the openmoko running on both devices
*wesnoth cross-compiled with the stock openembedded recipe for 1.6 version, using boost 1.41

ps: if you don't like/have flash(for instance if you're on an embedded device or a low power device) just use a downloader such as youtube-dl or cclive

Denis.

I guess that generic work for low res/low mem/weird input devices will be high on the 1.9 feature list, with all the iphones/android/moblin/whatever running around...

Well the N900 has 256mb of RAM and a gig of swap, so if you worried about the future don't worry about RAM so much. And anyways Wesnoth is enjoyable to play on the N810. It's gotten me through a couple of flights. :)

Making it thumb friendly is needed if you want to reach a broader audience though.
