Bug: Map scrolling during AI turn may give 'melting' effect

Post by Skippy »

I've tried looking through the bug list but couldn't determine if this is a known bug.

In campaign games during the AI turn when the map is scrolling occassionally a block of hexes will apapear to 'melt' rather than scroll properly (as best I can tell their redrawing is getting out of synch with the surrounding hexes). Because of the speed with which this happens (it rectifies itself quickly), I haven't been able to capture a screen shot.

Other potentially relevant information:
Wesnoth 1.0.2
System: Mac OS X 10.4.5 on Al Powerbook
Windowed mode
Noticed in underground maps - don't know if it is exclusive to these maps

You looked through the bug list, so you seem to know about bugs.wesnoth.org aka the Gna! bug tracker? So why on earth do you post here instead of submitting it properly there? The forum is not the right place for actual bug reports.

...but couldn't determine if this is a known bug.
There are a lot of bugs posted and I couldn't try every possible search combination so decided to ask here where someone more familiar with the known bugs might know if it is already there or not. I was trying to avoid unnecessary duplication.

I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read.

The prefered way to report bugs is through our bug tracking system on Gna, but you can also post your problem to the forums.

I'd say reporting something to the forums is better in cases where it's not sure that it is a bug. In your case you've got a misdrawing which is obviously not intended so it's better to post a real bug report since they've got a much lower chance of beeing forgotten. A report in the forum has a much lower chance of beeing addressed and once it's a bit older nobody will notice it anymore.
You're not supposed to try every possible search combinations. If a few rather obvious ones don't give a result the bug is either not present or worded in a bad way. In the latter case a duplicate with a better naming will be a path to the originial bug report and not completely useless.

I had always intended to post this at gna but the purpose of my post here had been to check whether it was already posted there before adding another bug to the list.

I guess from the responses people haven't heard of it.

I've seen the effect sometimes but I didn't care too much about it. At this time the program is busy computing the AI moves so it's not that unusual to have less then perfect screen updates.
