Trouble loading Wesnoth on a windows machine.

Post by J.C.D. »

Greetings. I downloaded the latest version of Wesnoth today, through sourceforge via the Wesnoth website. The installation went smoothly, but upon attempting to run it, a black screen appears with the stylized mouse cursor hovering in the top left hand corner. However, the game freezes before going any further. I also attempted running the game out of fullscreen mode, to the same effect. The computer that i'm running this on is adequate enough to play DOOM III smoothly, so I doubt it's a matter of system requirements. It's a windows machine.

Incidentally, when I attempt to ctrl+alt+del and close the program, the box appears in a higher resolution that I normally run my computer in. I.E, the box appears to be much smaller than it normally is.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like Wesnoth is trying to load in a resolution higher than you monitor likes much.... (to me)

What is your normal resolution?
If white was black and black was white, what would happen to zebra crossings?

I change it often, depending on what applications I am running. Is there an optimal resolution for playing the game? If so, and it is a problem between my monitor and the game itself, is there a way to resolve it short of using another monitor?

No, that's the complete file. Does it perhaps have something to do with the cache file not being found?

Do you as user have "write" permission for that folder?

I don't think so.
