640x480

Post by adelbert »

Hi,

I got an old computer at work and i installed Fedora Core on it. The only big problem is the resolution of my screen, it's maximum 640x480.

I installed Wesnoth on my Windows PC, but now i want to play it on the Fedora Core computer. I installed it and it works fine, except for the resolution. I cannot adjust it to 640x480, it's stuck on 1024x768. Is there anyway to change this???

I already found something with --enable-tinygui, but since i'm a Linux-beginner i really don't know where to use this option...

Could someone help me please?

You might have to do some work to get it to work at that resolution. The resolution with the smallest number of pixels seems to be 800x600.
I have run across layout information for where to place things at various resolutions and if those aren't defined you will probably need to make some up to allow for 640x480 to be used. If you do this, please submit back what you did.
You want to look at changing data/themes/default.cfg .
Documentation is available at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ThemeSystem .

My sister still has a spare screen that supports up to 1024*768 :-)

640x480 would be a great resolution to support because it means wesnoth could be played on TVs. This in turn means it could be put on media centers etc.
If that rez is to drastic, I believe that 720×480 is also a usable goal since it is the resolution DVD players use.

I noticed the resolution thing as welll. I would be nice if I could play it in windowed mode and still see the end of turn button.

720 x 480 for NTSC (US, Japan, etc.)
720 x 576 for PAL (Europe, South America, Australia, etc.)

This doesn't look too hard to do. But someone has to play with it and make sure things get put in reaonable places. If you are looking for a way to give back to the project, this looks like a task that isn't technically hard to do, but will take some time (but probably not too much).
