Removing a Faction ?

Post by Yomar »

Hello, I'm triying to reduce the game's size as most as possible ( I allready deleted Language, music, helps and so on) so my question is, can I remove the Khalifate faction (Me and my friends never use it with all the relative files (like images and cfg and so on) without problems ?
I mean will we still be able to play online without getting OSS errors ?
Will the game continue to work correctly ?
Thx

You can remove any unit sprites/portraits that you're not going to be seeing, yes. You'd even be able to play with them without OOS if you didn't mind looking at the "image not found" image.

But removing the ".cfg" files (configuration files related to the various units) will cause any problems, even if I don't use that faction ? Like out of sync errors ?
Is Khalifate a stand-alone case ?

It shouldn't.

cfg files of that entire faction are only about 50 kB. If that low amount matters, then there are loads of things that can be removed... like players changelog is several times larger.

Yes right now every KB matters, by the way thx for telling me about the changelog, I deleted that and also the other text files, I recovered more space than expected.

Well then, obviously campaigns
data/test
data/ test scenarios
data/multiplayer/ those maps and scenarios not used
data/tools
fonts/ most likely some can be removed

If you have an utils/ folder, you can delete that too.
And in the settings you can choose .bz2 as compression for the savegames (If you didn't already).
Try out the dark board theme.
