Units recruitment shortcut (alt+r) not working
Hi
I am using Wesnoth 1.10.2 and 1.11.0 (svn 54249) both on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.
Today, I noticed that the shortcut ("alt+r") for unit recruitement is not working, in both versions. All other shortcuts seem to work correctly, but when pressing ALT+R nothing happens.
Cheers,

Alt+R (recalling units) works for me, so does Strg+R (recruiting units).

is it only ALT shorcuts that are broken? I seem to recall from my Blender days that the alt key sometimes had issues because the ubuntu was hijacking it. Maybe try changing a system setting or just remap it.

Re: Units recruitment shortcut (alt+r) not working
mmh yes, it is only the ALT+ shortcut which does not work. Unfortunately in wesnoth unit recruitment is the ony shortcut which makes use of an ALT+key combination.
I looked around and it might indeed be an issue of ubuntu/unity hijacking (ALT) key bindings. However, to change that it seems slightly more complicated than one would expect.
(Basically, I have no actual shortcut mapped to ALT+R, nonetheless unity seems to block it)
Is there any way to change key bindings in Wesnoth? I couldn't find anything in the Preferences menu.

Preferences → General → Hotkeys

ops! ...and I even double read all the entries...but none of the button in the Prefs menu!shadowmaster wrote:Preferences → General → Hotkeys
anyway, back to the issue, just that you know.
I can confirm that it is ubuntu/unity grabbing all "ALT" related key bindings. Indeed, even within wesnoth "hotkey" menu trying to set new shortcuts on any "alt+<key>" is impossible.
I couldn't quickly find how to disable this "ALT"-grabbing behaviour from/in Unity, when/if I find it I'll also report it here (I have a pretty standard unity configuration, so I think this might also affect other Ubuntu/Wesnoth users)
cheers

A place to look could be blenderartists.org/off topic/ some ubuntu 11.10 thread started by bao2. At the same time, changing it in wesnoth is so easy you'd be better off just doing that, I have all my favorite hotkeys tied to a usb numpad.
