trying to create new faction

i am trying to follow the "new faction" wiki help on the site, to create my own custom era/factions, but i am not having any luck.

what i've done so far:

in Resources/Data/Multiplayer/ i added my faction to eras.cfg in the same format as the others. Then i went into Factions, and created a new folder for my faction, and named it appropriately, and then i went into Core, and added a units folder.

i know i sound a bit vague, but the help wiki really isn't very clear at all, and often references non-existant cfg files etc. if anyone with some experience could please help me out on how to do this, it would really help.

To be clear: i'm trying to create a new era, with new factions.

best not touch resources/data/multiplayer, what you want should be in userdata/data/add-ons and the best way for you would be to get some simple era addon and see how it's organised
basically you want a _main.cfg in the folder of your addon, and in it specify the path to your era cfg file(or you could just type in everything into _main.cfg but you'd end up not being able to read your own work at some point)

I found it impossible to create 1 unit and use it
