repeatable crashes in 1.7.8 when using cursor keys to scroll

Post by ozean »

(GNA does not work for me - Camino complains about certificate issues and cannot access the site.)

I can easily crash 1.7.8 when I use the cursor keys to scroll the map.

Mac OS X 10.6.2 (English)
Wesnoth 1.7.8 (official build)
single player (currently playing HttT, but this happens in all scenarios that I have played so far)
MacBook Pro 2,2 (2GB RAM)

A crash log is attached. I can provide plenty more if you need them ;)

GNA uses a self-signed certificate, which might cause your browser behave silly.

Regarding your crash, does it happen when you scroll both up or down or only when
you scroll up?

Hm, I reproduced the bug three times in a row now, and it always happened when I scroll down.

(Forgot to mention that I am playing in windowed mode: 1280x800 on a 1440x900 display.)

Can you also reproduce it when you scroll up?

I haven’t invested a huge amount of time in trying to reproduce it when moving up, but the only crash that I got happened when I accidentally used the down cursor key ;)

Is there a bug on this on GNA? Now that I have installed the CEcert root certificates and logged in – and realized that I still had an account from 2005…

I haven't seen a report on GNA about it.

Could you please test whether the bug only happens if you
scroll down or also if you scroll up. (I've a hunch what the
cause might be and if it only happens in one direction I've
some things our mac packager can test.)

Well, as I said, I spent some time trying to get Wesnoth to crash by using the up (or left or right arrow) key – but I did not succeed. Instead, Wesnoth crashes when I use the down key. Not every single time, but it can be reproduced.

I wasn’t able to reproduce a crash with any other arrow key. That does not mean that it is necessarily impossible, only that it seems to be unlikely and does happen rarely if at all. :) So I guess your hunch is good!

I wasn't sure how much you tested with other keys.

The mac packager has some hardware problems once that's fixed we'll look into the issue.

It seems something went wrong with building Wesnoth 1.7.8 on the
Mac and most/all Mac specific problems should be fixed with 1.7.9.

Please test again with this version.
