i can't download 1.7...

it says the file isn't recognized. i'm on OS X 10.5.7. i clicked the mac os button. in the downloads window it says mounting failed. i can't download 1.6.5 either.

Sounds like you either have a poor Internet connection, a failing hard drive, or corrupt system software.

I'd start by updating to 10.5.8 and then try downloading Wesnoth again after that. Also, wouldn't hurt to verify your hard disk from Disk Utility.

i'll do that this weekend, i need my dads admin password to update.

also, i have freaking ridiculous connection, so i don't think that's the problem.

and if this piece of crap is corrupted again... how do i verify the thing in disk utility?

usually when there's a problem like this people downloaded the source instead of the program. but since you're an a mac i think you would have noticed (i guess it just unpacks the tar archive).

check the size after you've downloaded it. it should be 252.8 MiB...

apparently my comp doesn't know that it needs to download the whole thing...

I've had this problem before, make sure you have enough hard disk space and try using a download manager.

what's a download manager? there's this little window that pops up when i download something, is that it?

when you use safari or firefox to download a file you'll get a window that shows the current download. it usually recognized the file size and shows a progressbar. what does it look like on your side? first it should show Wesnoth_1.7.5.dmg in the list. when it stops the progress bar should be at the very beginning.

tried it with safari - when i force the download to quit the file is still in a folder called Wesnoth_1.7.5.dmg.download. so if you're using safari it looks like it's been finished (for whatever reason). if i truncate the dmg to 5mb i get the same error...

such things were quite common some time ago, but lately sourceforge behaves quite nice. i haven't had any troubles downloading files for quite some time...

maybe try another browser?

not sure why this happens... sourceforge supports http 1.1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_serving) so safari should be able to continue downloading even if the connection got broken. i know firefox is able to do this, although it doesn't always work properly.

there are download managers that do a much better job (they can also increase speed by downloading with multiply streams). not sure if there's such a thing for the mac (there are a couple of firefox addons though).

Try creating a new Network location:

1. Go to System Preferences
2. Click "Network".
3. Under location, click on the pop-up menu and choose "Edit Locations…"
4. Click the "+" button.
5. Give it a name.
6. Click "Done".
7. Click "Apply".

See how things work under new location settings.
