Host Game Option in Multiplayer

Post by DarkSpy »

Why has the "Host a game" option has disappeared from the Multiplayer?
I am running the Mac version.
Can multiple players, with the same IP, connect to the official server?

Thanks.

The "create game" button should be available at the game lobby:

Yes, it is however limited at five connections.

Hosting a local game is no longer supported in Wesnoth. You need to log-in to a server, whether it's the official server or a local Wesnoth server; you can build your own server from the sources if you know how. I think the wesnoth server is included in the Windows binary (correct me on this). If I've the time and skill, I might try to tackle building the wesnoth server for the Mac binaries.
Take a breath.

I think DarkSpy rather meant the "Host a network game" in the multiplayer game type selection menu, that was present in versions older than 1.2.x IIRC. Well, it was removed because it used not very well maintained code - now people who want to serve a game in a LAN, for instance, should use the Wesnoth server program, wesnothd.

EDIT. Anakayub beat me to it.

Yes, that's what I meant; wesnothd is not included in the Mac binaries.

If wesnothd doesn't come with the Mac binaries, how can I host a game?

Well, you just can't for the time being. :(

If no true Mac programmer decides to tackle it, I can make an attempt after solving the 1.4.2 for non-10.5 Mac users and making a successful 1.5.0 build. Don't hold your breath though. I'd recommend just making a password-protected game on the official online server, or having a Windows friend host with wesnothd until then.
Take a breath.

Or you can install virtualisation software like Parallels or VMware, run a Linux distro or Windows from that and on top of it a Wesnoth server.
